Re: Dropped nut calamity,
I think William Shatner could do a program devoted to "Lost Nuts" in his series "Weird of What". OPENING SHOT: Shatner rides into view on his Segway, "Picture if you will, a man is working on the engine of his classic car. Suddenly a nut he is holding springs to life & l...

Re: Dropped nut calamity,
This nut HAS disappeared, maybe into another dimension. I have just spent 30 minutes under the car with a piece of coat hanger running it up & down between the starter motor & the engine, I then heard something fall to the floor, it definitely sounded like a nut, can I find it? Can I hell! A...

Re: Dropped nut calamity,
It may depend on when the solenoid was fitted. I've got one that takes 5/16 UNC and one that takes M8. No doubt other sizes are used too. The original nut is probably sitting on the ledge at the bottom of the block, and if you remove the starter motor (two bolts only) you will probably be able to r...

Dropped nut calamity,
I was changing the battery on my 1967 Minor when I dropped the nut that attaches the positive cable to the starter solenoid. It disappeared between the starter motor & the engine block. Its been 50 years since I meddled with a Moggie & AF sizes & I was wondering if someone could tell me ...

Re: Large capacity battery?
I tried that. It brought back memories of the early 70's when winters were cold & every morning you'd be met by the sight of people trying to start their cars, the depressing sound of batteries on their last legs valiantly trying to breathe life into dead, frozen engines. The only car I ever own...

The 075 battery suits a negative earth application well: https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/yuasa/ybx1075/ Thanks for the info. Tanya has a special deal on a 075 60Ah battery with I think I'll go for. The problem with an 038 battery, its fine when the car is used all the time, or kept in a warm ...

Re: Large capacity battery?
I can think of no reason why there should be any difference in size of the battery shelf. There's not a reason for them to do so. Checking the Part Catalogue, there was a change in part number of the Battery Box from AAA 4798 to ALA 2993 during production, but it applied to all versions and it was ...

Re: Large capacity battery?
The 075 battery suits a negative earth application well: https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/yuasa/ybx1075/ I wonder how they get nearly double the Ah out of a battery not much bigger than an 038. I think trying your idea might work although the Positive lead might have to be replaced for a longe...

Re: Large capacity battery?
There are not many Positive left batteries bigger than the 038, but that still fit in the compartment. This looks interesting: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/192795127590?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=mRobY0csTAi&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=oDDUSYxtTQa&widget_ver=artemis...

Thanks for the info. Are the battery compartments the same size in Minors & Travellers. I was under the impression the Traveller had a larger compartment.

Large capacity battery?
I have a 1967 Minor convertible. At the moment it has an 038 battery in it which although seemingly healthy struggles to turn the car over when it has been left for a week or two in the cold. The battery compartment clearly has room for a larger battery. Can anyone suggest a battery that will fit &a...

Re: calling the police
One must face the fact that anyone on 2 wheels is now above the law. These groups contribute nothing & are responsible for nothing. They are sainted as a "Vulnerable group".
"Phone the police?"
Good luck with that.

Re: calling the police
Maybe many cops are fed up with all the PC claptrap. A few months ago I was rocketing around a bend (Not in the Moggie) near the foot of Box Hill & pulled up for speeding by a cop with a speed gun. He was quite young & looked exactly like Matt Hancock. Anyways he started asking me all these ...

Re: calling the police
Anyone on any wheeled form of transport using the public right of way should be forced to carry insurance & the object they are in charge of registered with ID. I bet cyclists will be seething with rage at the proposal below, the problem is they and others can literally mow down men women & ...

Re: calling the police
It would seem because of the "E" prefix, these scooters & their riders, have, like cyclists, been afforded the status of "Sainthood" or "Beatification". They can do no wrong. They require neither insurance nor registration & can therefore run amok without fear o...

Re: Show us your dog
Do not be fooled by the picture of serenity I have already posted. What lies beneath the shiny fur is far darker & sinister than anything you can imagine. We picked up Emma from a top breeder of Labradors, he'd already shown us the litter & we made our choice, the old wizened man rasped, &qu...
