Re: positive to negative earth

Slightly hijacking this thread, but could people please confirm my thoughts that my car is now negative earth - noticed when I took the battery off to charge and realised that the -ve terminal connects to the bulkhead. Picture below:

Re: Keeping a Minor Outdoors

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately my driveway is shared with my neighbour and so I cannot easily get a portable garage on it, but it is useful to know they are so affordable.

Re: Keeping a Minor Outdoors

Keith - your last point is a very good one! The distance to the garage, whilst only a mile, does actually end up being an issue because you cannot just pop outside to work on the car or pop out for a drive easily. I plan to use the car more over the coming summer, ideally taking it to work once a we...

Re: Keeping a Minor Outdoors

Thanks all.

I will check the seals - they look OK (not great though) but I could budget for either new seals or a half cover for the car (or both!) to ensure there are no leaks.

Keeping a Minor Outdoors

Good morning all I have had my Minor for almost a year now and when I bought it I took out a 12 month contract on a garage to keep it in. The garage is dry but has no power, and is about a mile from home. The contract is up for renewal soon and the local council has increased the price to £80 per mo...

Philthe hill (and all others)

Many thanks for the help - I will look through my workshop manual to find out what exactly the arrangement should look like and then adjust / realign as necessary.

Re: Choke Return Spring

Thanks Phil, I will investigate further.

Would the choke not opening fully cause the symptoms I described, or have I potentially missed the actual reason it wouldn't start?

Choke Return Spring

Afternoon All I had my first Minor mishap on Sunday when I couldn't get the engine to start after a drive to the car wash. Although I am still very much a beginner I popped the bonnet and (pretended to know what I was doing) worked my way through the ignition and fuel systems looking for obvious fau...

Re: Oil Filter

Sorry, I have caused some confusion by noting the wrong numbers in my first post. I have the plate and the spring and have refitted these, what I am missing are: - the small washers/seals which fit between the spring and the plate - the clip which fits between the plate and the filter My OP should h...

Oil Filter

Morning All I did my first ever oil change last night and it all went well. I also changed the oil filter, remembering advice written on here to carefully check how it fits together as I took it apart, so that I could reassemble it properly. The oil was changed, I took the car for a short (5 mile) r...

Vehicle Lift

Has anyone on here had experience of vehicle lifts like this one: https://www.automotechservices.co.uk/products/as-09011-portable-tilting-lift/ Would the position of the lifting surfaces (ie along each sill) be suitable, or would it not provide enough support for the car? Not looking to buy one (yet...

Re: Diff leaking?

Rob - that would make sense.

Although I had planned to check the levels tonight, it would appear I do not have a 7/16 (or an 11mm) key and so I will have to wait for the post before I can check.

Re: Diff leaking?

Phil

Many thanks, I will clean the diff up and check the level tonight.

Just to clarify, can you confirm my understanding of the various points is correct (below)? The breather (as labelled) does have a little plastic cap on it which was loose.

Diff leaking?

After picking up my first Minor at the weekend I am ready for my first technical question. I was having a look underneath last night and noticed that the bottom of the diff casing has a lot of oil on it - it appears to be reasonably fresh and I am not sure if I have a leak or not - it does not appea...

Thanks for the replies. Regarding the switch back to trafficators, at the same time I will be installing flashers both front and rear which are concealed within the original light fittings - I saw them in a recent article in Practical Classics and they are produced by bettercarlighting.co.uk I agree...

Re: Hello from Dorset

I collected the car yesterday and the 40 mile drive home was probably the most fun I have ever had in a car :) I did find the lack of mirrors a little disconcerting - I tend to use my mirrors a lot - and so I have ordered a pair of door mirrors which should be entertaining to fit when they arrive. O...
