Re: how to paint

Thanks. I thought, (wrongly) that they were powder coated.
Thanks for the advice.

Re: how to paint

Thank you Kenny.
Did you paint the Hammerite onto the powder coated layer? Or bare metal?

how to paint

After welding on a chassis leg, what is the best paint to use to stop it rusting?
Do you get rid of the powder coat that it comes in, or leave that on as the base coat?
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks, John.

Re: winter tyre question

O dear. The tyres are 'contiwintercontact' tyres, so I suppose they are just winter tyres.

Re: winter tyre question

They crack much earlier than that. Last winter I did a lot of work on the car over about 8 weeks, and that amount of time with the car stationary was enough to crack the tyres. They were about 18 months old. I did take a set of tyres back and got a refund about 5 years ago. They were cracked between...

Re: winter tyre question

Thanks, that is an interesting article. I like the fact that winter tyres have more rubber content. I am fed up with tyres cracking in-between the treads when there is still loads of tread left, often when the tyres are only a few months old.

winter tyre question

I have got winter tyres on my car, and intend to leave them on all year. What are the implications if I am involved in an accident? If my car is examined after an accident, could the winter tyres be deemed 'illegal' outside winter? I don't use my car as much as I like, and I am hoping the winter tyr...

Re: 'Smart' motorways

There is no such thing as 'the fast lane'. The outside of the lane of the motorway is for overtaking only.
There is no such thing as a 'smart lane', on a smart motorway. None of it is smart.

Re: mild road rage

I am sure they were given the choice.
I don't think new drivers should be given the choice though. I think it should be compulsory to go on the machine and experience a 'crash'.
It may make better drivers of them in the long run.

Re: mild road rage

I remember the seat belt campaign in the 70s . An 'advert' on the telly showed a machine set up in shopping centres, a kind of chute with a seat fixed to it. If you sat in the seat and slipped down the chute to buffers at the end it simulated a head on crash at (I think) 9 mph. A celebrity (unfortun...

Re: mild road rage

I think some people are scared to drive a small car nowadays too. They feel safer in a 4x4.

Re: mild road rage

Modern cars are designed to look increasingly angry and intimidating, they're also getting larger and larger in a strange kind of arms race that has killed off much of the emissions and mpg gains modern engines grant. Perhaps people are increasingly isolated and afraid - hows that for pop sociology...

mild road rage

My 'modern' daily driver car will do 60 miles an hour. My Morris Minor will also do 60 miles an hour (although the engine is screaming for mercy). Why is it that other drivers will mostly behave themselves when they are behind my modern car, but do anything possible, no matter how stupid, to get in ...

Re: Pickup rear door.

I don't know much about ebay scams. I am interested because my tailgate was unbolted and stolen last year. The seller keeps listing and un-listing other car parts too. Thanks for looking.

Pickup rear door.

There has been a tailgate listed on ebay on and off for the last 6 months or so. It is listed as 'pickup rear door', and is put on and taken off regularly. It started off at £300 and the last few times has been started at £250.
Anyone know what is going on?

I hate pavement parkers, and cyclists on the pavements, but I would not mention that on here.

What has that got to do with Morris Minors?
