Re: Phone number

I’m fairly certain that PU is an Essex registration and that isn’t very far away to the south of here!

Re: Phone number

I used to work for BT and was involved in the dialling code changes which took place in April 1995. Before then 0449 was the code for Stowmarket in Suffolk (it became 01449 from April 1995). 044978xxxx numbers look like they are around Bacton which is a little north of Stowmarket. From an internet s...

Re: Fitting hazard warning lights - correct wires?

Hi, I'd have replied earlier but my PC has been away for hard disk replacement ands only came back yesterday. I fitted an ESM supplied kit to my 1969 car which I think has the same wiring as yours (assuming yours is standard like mine is). These are the instructions that came with mine: IMG_20210818...

Re: Missing page from AKD 3541 Mechanical Service Parts List

Thanks Geoberni and John. I'd not spotted the entry in the revisions part. The problem isn't on pages 234 and 235, mine match the same as the ones you posted, but plate 2.1 would (I think) fit between pages 232 and 233. You're right, it doesn't matter as far as ordering parts goes, but I've found th...

Re: Missing page from AKD 3541 Mechanical Service Parts List

Thanks Geoberni. Maybe I'm confusing myself then, I've got 2 text pages without an image between which doesn't occur anywhere else that I've seen so I assumed something was missing. Do you have 2 copies of the previous plate (logically M1) with a master cylinder and the brake pedal before the image ...

Re: Missing page from AKD 3541 Mechanical Service Parts List

Thanks for the replies so far. Jowett: My Dad had a new car in 1969 (an Austin 1800 S!) and I remember the dealer being proud of fitting it with new reflective plates. I had to get replacements for my car, but I felt as that is what it's always had I'd keep the same. StillGotMy1stCar: No, I've got t...

Missing page from AKD 3541 Mechanical Service Parts List

Not quite 3 years after buying it as a project, I got my Minor back on the road 10 days ago. A great feeling of achievement! It's been off the road since 2003 though so now I'm using it I'm finding one or two "teething problems" and had one over the weekend with the brakes not fully releas...

Re: Fitting headlamps

Thanks very much to both of you for your replies, that's just what I needed. I've been applying copper grease to all bolts and general grease to what I think might benefit from it all along - I work on the basis it might be me dismantling it next and I'd be really annoyed if things rusted up because...

Fitting headlamps

I'm hoping someone with more experience than me can give me an answer to enable me to progress as I've got stuck! When I bought my car it had no wings and hence no headlamps. I'm now at the point where the newly painted second hand wings are on and I have nice new headlamps to fit to them. I've fitt...

That's great, thanks very much. I can find what must be the original holes on the body and reuse them for the new panels.

Rear quarter trim panel fixing, late 2 door

I have new trim panels to fit in the rear quarters of my 1969 2 door saloon, but I'm not sure where the fixings should be. The parts book says 10 screws and screw caps in total, so presumably 5 per side but the old panels and side of the car have a greater number of holes than that. If anyone can gi...

Re: Ash Tray Position

I posted a photo in response to a similar request last year some time, but due to my inabilities in searching I can't find it again now. Here it is again - sorry the quality isn't brilliant, but the screw holes are at about 4.75 and 8 inches along the steel rule. My car is a 1969 one so I think will...

Re: Front wing fixings

Thanks to all for the replies.

Sorry, but I don't like the self tapping screw option. I think I'd rather have a bolt of some sort.

I'd not thought of rivnuts. I like that and will investigate further.

Front wing fixings

I'm back again with another question I can't find the answer to... I bought my Minor part restored. All structural welding has been done, but it was partly dismantled when I got it. I'm currently looking at fitting the front wings I've bought from eBay and club spares (thanks Bryan!). I have some mi...

Re: Ashtray in centre near hand brake.

I'm fairly new here and normally asking questions. This time though I think I can help as my car currently has no interior (but does have shiny paint on the floor now). Hopefully I'm collectively giving something back in exchange for the help I've had! The photo shows the 4 holes either side of the ...

Re: Bonnet release mechanism

Sorry, work got in the way of looking on here. Thanks for the 2nd photo, just what I needed. I'd dismissed that hole as being for something I'd not fitted yet as my car has no wings or front panel fitted and there's a matching hole on the other side. I'll connect it all up when I get chance. Thanks ...

Re: Bonnet release mechanism

Thanks, yes it does.

What does the spring hook into under the wing though? My car doesn't have anything, although I guess I can make a suitable sized hole in the inner wing.

Bonnet release mechanism

I bought my Minor as a part complete project which I'm building back to complete. Yesterday I was putting the bonnet release mechanism back together, but I can't work out where the anti rattle spring on the long rod which goes into the car fixes. I can attach it to the rod, but I can't see anything ...

Re: Wiper motor problem

My 2nd wiper motor arrived today. Very rusty and dirty on the outside but the inside contains an arm with the bush attached and the black clip so I have what I need to fix my original motor. Does it matter much what sort of grease I use when reassembling? I was assuming ordinary LM grease, but then ...

Re: Wiper motor problem

Thanks, that's just what I needed. It looks like the arm comes with the brass bush attached. I took the photograph with it the wrong way up, the other end does look like it once had enough metal to be riveted to the arm, sadly it doesn't any more. That end of the arm is no longer round either, so I ...
