Re: points again

stuffedpike20 - don’t get your coat! It’s because there’s a delay between the spark and the explosive effect, during which delay the piston continues its travel towards TDC … thus it’s (all being well) in the right place when it becomes subject to the explosive force 🙂.

I agree with Geoberni, and would add that the earth is often supplied by the aerial connection.

Re: Battery and charger

Morning John!

Yes. Make sure charger is switched off, connect positive from charger (red) to positive battery terminal, and then negative from charger (black) to negative battery terminal. Then switch on charger. After switching off, remove in reverse order.

Re: Paint codes & bodywork / trim colours

Dear All, I've just obtained a heritage certificate for our 1966 tourer (now white with red hood) and it tells me that it was originally Dove Grey with a Pearl Grey hood and Cherokee Red trim ... I wonder, does anyone have a car in those colours? And, if so, please could you post some photographs? T...

Re: Glass Channel Felt

I bought the rubbers/felt and the weather strips from ESM; they arrived cut to a good fit. The old worn felts pulled out very easily (pulling vertically upwards from the top). I did not glue in the new ones - they are a tight fit and there is no sign of them moving with the opening/closing of the wi...

Re: Glass Channel Felt

I’ve just fitted new channel felt/rubbers and weather strips to the O/S door of our convertible (I’ll do the other side later in the week). For each channel, I was able to feed the felt down the channel (with the window lowered), pulling it down as necessary (with the window raised) from inside the ...

I’m sorry too, but glad that no-one was hurt. I hope that the damage is as limited as it seems to be, and that you are soon all back on the road. I enjoy your posts and videos, and I look forward to more tales and pictures of your happy adventures.

Re: windscreen wipers - are they supposed to be ineffective?

This is a great forum - thank you to all who contribute. I had to drive our Minor at short notice in the rain today, and, having read this thread, shortened the wiper-arm springs on the ineffectual wipers and enjoyed a significant improvement in performance. 🙂

Re: Morris Minor Specialists

Dear All, I’ve just fitted LED headlights to my car, and would like the alignment checked properly (I can’t readily do it at home and I’d like to know it’s (a) right and (b) going to pass the MOT. Is anyone able to recommend a friendly workshop in Preston, Lancashire, which could help? If so, please...

Thank you all - please could you share your views on which LEDs to get for the front side lights and for the number plate lamp? - bright white or warm white, and standard or extra bright?

Thank you!

Re: New fan belt, now have red light

Jenko - I’m not going to add to the practical advice, but I echo Myoldjalopy; don’t give up! There are bound to be issues with a decades-old car which has been through several (or more) pairs of hands. And I agree, mechanically it’s all relatively straightforward to sort out; it does need a patient ...

Re: Gearstick sloppy

Thank you for your post and photo, wearthefoxhat. I was inspired to buy the o-ring, thrust button and spring to sort out my sloppy gearstick. I fitted them this evening, and there is an enormous improvement. That’s not surprising, because on dismantling I found a split and worn o-ring, and no thrust...

Re: Hood frame, rear window frames

On ours, where the hood frame attaches to the bracket on the window frame, the hood frame is on the inside (the car side) of the bracket and not the outside (the window side). Yours is on the outside, and so the hood frame is closer to the window frame. That may be a partial cause of the fouling. I ...

Convertible - leaving the hood down

Morning Everyone! We have just acquired a 1966 convertible (last Minor was a 1968 2-door in the 1980s). Please could I have some advice - is it generally better to leave the hood up when not using the car (she'll be in a garage) so as to avoid the risk of any mould and ensure that the hood stays tau...
