Re: Recognising inlet valves

The 'A' Series always ran better with 0.015" valve clearance even when using leaded fuel but could be noisy. The 'B' series engine ran with 0.015" valve clearance without any problems. The 0.015" valve clearance is recommended when using unleaded fuel as the valves run hotter which results in the v...

Re: gear or clutch - rattle and scratching

Shame on my ears (which are equipped with earphones)!

When my son in law drove the car and I was outside the terrible sound was easy to determine. It was the belt!

Re: gear or clutch - rattle and scratching

Until now I did not have the chance to get beneath the car.

I can imagine your guess maybe the fault. If it is such a roller bearing the rollers may be toast. I don't know what is inside because the car is new to me.

gear or clutch - rattle and scratching

Sometimes after engaging the clutch and as soon as the gears have power a rattle like a bag full of nuts and a scratching is present. The mystery is the duration. I can drive 50 miles or more without that noise. But after parking the car and starting again it happens, that the noise is present in ev...

Re: To the German Owners - H-Zulassung

Since yesterday the Minor is on the road. There was a change by law in March. Not only TÜV in the west of Germay but also GTÜ and other may issue a full acceptance certificate. The inspector was so much impressed about the state of the car and no discussion had been started about those things I'd wo...

Re: brake lines - material?

Yes - massiv bureaucracy (or bureaucrazy?) But that's not coming from Brussel - it's only because the German think they are up with technical solutions and the others make crap. Brussel wants to make a car transfer from one state to the other as easy as a transfer within a state. Coming together mea...

chassis number - need infos because renewing

I'd searched the VIN at the bulkhead but didn't found it. There is only a plate with the car number screwed to the bulkhead. Is there a difference beetween VIN, car number and chassis number for a 1965 Moggy? I have to renew the VIN on the plate at the bulkhead because the German authorities don't a...

Re: To the German Owners - H-Zulassung

I know Declan because we got in touch a lot with MG-TDs. As mentioned it depends on the TÜV employee.

Thanks for the hints. In the meantime I got some drawings out of a catalogue which shows that 2door and tourer are based on the same structure and also the parts for the convertible are shown.

@King Kenny I've informed SOLVIT and I'm waiting for support. http://ec.europa.eu/solvit/index_en.htm @ Nickol in German (sorry @ all) Das Europaparlament hat 2014 eine Oldtimerdefinition und ein Verkehrssicherheitspaket verabschiedet (Richtlinie 2014/45/EU des Europäischen Parlaments und des Rates ...

Re: brake lines - material?

Quote of an email I got from the TÜV: The English MOT is ridiculous anyway and in no way complies with the EC requirements. So much for the common market. I am hopeful, when Brexit finally takes place, that this nonsense finally stops, believe me, please. You can not imagine what rubbish on wheels f...

Re: brake lines - material?

If they can the authorities will make troubles. There have been only a few cars in D e.g. Porsche 928 or some VOLVO which came with nonsteel out of the factory. They may say that when the car was build it comes with steel lines and so it must have steel lines for all the future. But if it is approve...

To the German Owners - H-Zulassung

I need some support to get a "H-Zulassung" (Registration as Historical vehicle in Germany). The car was converted from 2door to convertible. The registration certificate V5C shows "convertible" but the Geraman TÜV delivered a datasheet for a 2door and noticed that the conversion must be inspected. T...

brake lines - material?

The brake lines of the car are made of copper or some copper mixture. The German TÜV (MOT) wants to see steel lines and maybe I don't get the permission to bring on the road. When I looked at MOSS or Charles Ware's only copper lines are available. Is copper a common solution for many cars or is it a...
