Re: Story of a Swedish Moggie, 2 door 1959 (with videos)

Thank you everyone for all the kind words! I've started working on a spare wing that will need some prep before paint. Will absolutely keep you posted as I progress! Regarding the discussion of cold climate additions, I do not have any inlet tract or damper piston chamber heaters. I've only really d...

Re: Story of a Swedish Moggie, 2 door 1959 (with videos)

Thanks for your reply! Yes we were very lucky. I have never been in a car accident before so it felt very unreal. Trafficators are very uncommon in Sweden, I think they stopped being allowed sometime in the early 1950's if I would guess. My indicators are built into the rear lights. When the crash h...

Car crash

So it's been a while since I did an update. To make a long story short, we sadly crashed our poor car. We were lucky though so no-one got injured and the damage to the car is actually relatively limited. The crash happened when I made a left turn on a country road and the car behind didn't see me br...

Re: Story of a Swedish Moggie, 2 door 1959 (with videos)

@geoberni: Haha, yes I was sure that I checked which side they should go on but I clearly got them mixed up... And fiddling with the nut and washer took about, hmm say 30 minutes in reality! I was very frustrated.... Dropped the spring washer at least 20 times... But it felt very nice when it was do...

Installing door mirrors (lucas style)

Time for a new update! I finally took the time to install door mirrors last week, but not after trying my luck in dense city traffic a few weeks ago... The mirrors were ordered a few months back but I guess I didn't miss them on country roads so I didn't bother. The job was easy enough, except for s...

Classic Car Rally

Thought I would do a general update. As I mentioned above we were preparing for a classic car rally when the water pump broke. The event is called the "Helga Lake Rally", 100 cars and motorcycles took part -the oldest one being a Ford Model T Lorry from 1911, and the youngest a Volvo 740 f...

Looks like you have got quite a bit of welding to do there! I think welding is actually relatively fun work, but accessibility and ergonomics are really important so I think you've got the right idea with the rotisserie!

Will be following with interest, good luck! :)

Re: Sorry I haven't a clue

Very brave of you! I hope it works out for you =) Do you know any details about the state of the car? Will be interesting to see what's underneath that surface!

Yes I think those types of protruding hood ornaments were outlawed here in the 50's for safety reasons. I think your version looks nicer so it's a bit of a pity.

Re: Story of a Swedish Moggie, 2 door 1959 (with videos)

Thank you both! I will add links to videos as we go along, starting here :) About the video: This video shows me replacing the water pump. My wife and I had planned to drive in a 70 mile classic car rally a few weeks ago. We had a bit of bad luck when I discovered a bad grinding noise and a lot of p...

Story of a Swedish Moggie, 2 door 1959 (with videos)

Hello everyone! Since I'm still new to these forums , I thought it would be a good idea to get started by telling the story of our car. We've only had her for a short while but we've grown very fond of her and had a few memorable adventures this summer. We've named her "Duchess". :) The ca...

Re: Uneven spark plug color

Thanks for replying! I have no great experience in this matter so any input is appreciated!

I found a picture of the plug from cylinder # 4 as well. I think that looks even more oily:

Re: Uneven spark plug color

I think the pictures might be better than my description, but I would say more towards the "dry and sooty". I do not think that the (slightly?) lower compression on cylinder one has any connection to the other signs, just thought that compression could be useful info in this context.

Uneven spark plug color

I've been continuing to slowly go through the mechanicals of our new Minor. Last week I replaced ignition parts (plugs, leads, cap, rotor, points) and did a compression test. While doing this I noticed that the plugs had a very uneven color, after a 10 mile test drive. Plugs 1 & 2 look good, bei...

Re: Voltage Regulator Problem

Update: Managed to do some more adjustments this weekend. Set the gap in the regulator points to spec -0,012". Was about 0,010". Then I increased the regulator voltage slightly by turning the adjustment screw about ½ turn clockwise. After that I got very close to the specified regulator vo...

Re: Voltage Regulator Problem

Thank you Nickol and Jowett for your answers! I will make sure to take a closer look at the battery, I do not know how old it is or how well it keeps its charge. Did check that the fluid level is good though. I think I have misunderstod some of the functions in the control box/voltage regulator. Did...

Re: Voltage Regulator Problem

Thanks for your answer. I think I over-reacted when I saw the marked increase in voltage (as mentioned I only got 12,5 max before). Probably it was OK, I can test how high it goes under a little more revs next time, what should be the maximum battery voltage during charging? I do think the dynamo an...
