Re: Traveller Cab pick up chasis

You have an interesting project ahead. I have a pick up with a custom load bed. Your traveller cab will be longer than the pick up cab that I have but you can see from the photos that there is still some flat area of chassis before it rises to clear the back axle. I think there should be enough room...

Re: Minor Roadster Front Wings

Thanks for the encouraging comments Mike. Here are some pics of the end result. I attached the new pieces using the bolts and sealing it with black seam sealer. I think it has worked well - though as often happens one side is a bit better fit than the other. We took the car for an outing to Calke Ab...

Re: Minor Roadster Front Wings

Finished painting the new panels. The engine bay is hand painted in enamel and I got the paint factors to put some of it in rattle cans so that I could do small projects like this. I have never had much success with cans of paint - it runs or is too dry or ends up with orange peel. But this time suc...

Re: Minor Roadster Front Wings

Panels welded and filled. The inside is not a pretty sight but will be sprayed up with stone chip which will fill a lot of the gaps.

Re: Minor Roadster Front Wings

I spent yesterday cutting the steel sheet to make the panels. The two sides are a bit different in depth at the radiator end - probably due to differences in the wings and how they are set up to get good panel gaps with the doors. I have a set of very useful pins which hold steel together better tha...

Re: Minor Roadster Front Wings

The curve of the lower edge of the front wings turns out to be more complicated than I thought at first. The "flat" panel into which the side lights are set is actually gently curved and then there is a sharper bend the other way leading into the more gentle curve round to the wheel arch. ...

Minor Roadster Front Wings

Since lockdown I have been really busy so not much chance to do more work on the cars. But this last week I have had some time off and have managed to make a start. We have used the tourer a few times during the nice weather and rolled it out onto the drive for the Classics for Carers Stay at Home C...

Re: Minor roadster

Sorry for the delay in reply MarkMan900. I have not been on the forum for quite a while. In answer to your questions the wiring loom is a commercially made one. I thought about making one as well but I realised that I wanted to ensure that the colour coding on the wiring was correct so it was easier...

Re: Convertible sill strengthening

Hi. You need a number of strengthening panels in addition to the sill ones. Here is a view of the sill panel welded on top of a renewed floor. The steel I had to hand was 16 gauge so much more solid than the usual panels. Difficult to work but nothing moves! In addition you need to add strength betw...

Front Suspension Swivel Pin Removal

In the spring I replaced the swivel pins and trunnions on my pick up after 25 years service. Lots of us have done it and its not that difficult. But in March at the NEC I saw a guy struggling with a suspension change and where to put the jack under the trunnions to release the tension in the torsion...

Re: Minor roadster

Just a few more pics. I did all the welding and preparation but the respray was professionally done in 2 pack. The seats are from a later car but the door cards and other bits of trim are home made. I did all the mechanics and electrics myself which was very satisfying. So far it has been trouble fr...

Re: Minor roadster

Here are a few more pics of my tourer/roadster. I managed to reduce the JPEG file size.
She started out as a 1959 two door saloon. When I got her she was a wreck and there was water inside which had rotted out the floor. That was 16 years ago.
Her name is Bluebell.

Re: Minor roadster

I did have a look at that and it looked a bit scary so chose to get in touch with DVLA. My case to them was that the change to the car were exactly the changes to the body that the factory made when they built the convertibles. With the addition of photos to show the build that seemed to be enough. ...
