Re: Which coil?
Thanks to all of you - enormously helpful as ever. We will go away and have a think but at least have now got it down to either distributor doctor or a second hand (tested) one through your help

Re: Which coil?
Thank you - so many options!
My concern would be knowing that it was reliable if it was second hand?
Oh what to do!! Lots of food for thought

Re: Which coil?
Thankyou, interestingly we had ruled out Lucas based on feedback. OK, if your experience with accuspark was not good then perhaps distributor doctor is the way to go. As he doesn't seem to list his prices it is very difficult to know what the cost difference might be, though within reason we want re...

Re: Voltage regulator/electrical mystery
Thank you for all for your responses. To answer some of the questions posed: The car has been in our ownership for several years and driven a lot, though out of our Morris's it is the one that has had the least restoration work/renovation but that is more because it was in a pretty good state when w...

Re: Voltage regulator/electrical mystery
Thank you - it's definitely still wired in and getting hot at terminal A. I presume therefore that as we have an alternator the voltage regulator is in effect not doing anything and therefore it must be a bad earth? I'll have a look at the wiring diagram in case it sheds any light on the issue :) Th...

Gearbox to chassis earth strap bolt
Dear All, Hoping you can help with what is hopefully a straightforward question!!
The Gearbox to chassis earth strap on our 62 Morris is loose at the chassis end and seems to be spinning on the bolt.
Is there a way to access the other side of the bolt or another way to tighten it up?
Thank you

Ok, so here's the scenario: We're now 7months into covid and my husband who is severely sight impaired, but great at mechanics is finding lockdown life increasingly restrictive and difficult (he's 52). As we move towards winter I thought I could get him a new project - not a whole vehicle but perhap...

Re: Smelly engine
Interesting and curious - I wonder why that was done if it is not standard for that car? It is connected to the carb and the tappet gantry cover. We recently (couple of months ago) changed the oil cap to a breather type, having read posts on here about oil cap types, so perhaps it will improve with ...

Our experience, like yours are that they are tricky to seal well. I'm hoping it keeps going a bit longer before we enter the realms of major overhaul!

Re: Smelly engine
Thanks all so much, we inspected the spark plugs again today ( though still running fine) and plug no 3 is now black and covered in deposits and has damage to it (see photo). All the others are a lovely shade of light brown. We've changed the Spark plug now. The breather on the smelly one is a canis...
