Re: Electric Morris Minor
And until the DVLA change their policy (again) an historic vehicle converted to electric is likely to have its registration number voided and then be issued with a Q-plate. There's an interesting article on the potentially serious pitfalls of modifying classic cars... or any car for that matter. ht...

Re: Engine cut out -fine red particles in the fuel
I found a lot of very fine red particles in the bottom of the float chamber. It sounds like rust particles to me. It's worth checking the fuel tank, even though it's fairly new. If you have the same red particles in the bottom of the tank, but no rusting of the tank itself, then I'd be suspecting i...

Re: Help to get my car registered
Welcome to the club and congratulations on passing your driving test! :tu1: Have you been in touch with DVLA directly or just put the registration into their 'vehicle enquiry' website search? If it was last on the road in the early 80's then I would expect the car to be in their records somewhere, b...

Re: 836UMB
If you look it up on the DVLA website the vehicle is SORN so not on the road. The last V5 logbook was issued in 2018. I do think it would be a real benefit if the DVLA website showed when a vehicle was SORN from. Looks like the last MOT expired in October 2018, so it could have been SORN from then ...

Re: DVLA Service Reaches New Low...
I had the same problem in August. Fortunately I'd remembered the tax was due, but it's easy to forget these things, especially when you're used to a reminder turning up. When the V11 still hadn't arrived by the end of the month I had to dig out the V5. It could be a problem for anyone who'd sent off...

Re: scrap car henge
Some of those vehicles don't look too bad. Certainly compared to a few I've seen restored over the years. Hope they are put to good use and not just scrapped when they take it all down again.

Re: Gvv 92f - 1967 2 door 1098
Hi, new to the MMOC and thus this forum. I’m keen to learn any history re the above vehicle. Recently purchased from a classic car auction in North Yorkshire. The only thing I really know is that it was renovated to a very high standard in 2013-14 with many supporting photos and remains much the sa...

Re: Carburetor replacement
I took my 1968 Morris Traveller to a garage today as it is only doing just over 12 miles to the gallon and is running very rich. With that kind of consumption and the current price of petrol, it wouldn't take long for a carb rebuild kit to pay for itself  I thought mine was bad when it droppe...

Re: Do you guys feel safe driving your Moggy??
I think our cars are more solid than some of the modern cars, This is absolutely not the case, the effect of Euro NCP has made a 30mph accident into something solid something that people walk away from. If you ever get to look at the monocoque of the modern vehicle there is reinforcement after rein...

Re: satnav through cigarette lighter problems
Does it only blow the fuse when the engine is running or does it make no difference? The voltage can be significantly higher than 12 volts when the battery is being charged. Plus if you're still running a dynamo, then the regulation tends to be not as smooth. Perhaps there are some voltage spikes th...

Re: Failed Dynamo?
You could try repolarising ('flashing') the field coils to re-magnetise them, if you haven't done so already. They can sometimes loose their residual magnetism and as a result the dynamo won't start generating.

Wow, seems a little overpriced
I wonder if it'll still be worth that much when petrol is £5.00 a litre and your nearest filling station is a 30 mile round trip

Re: Paperwork seeks OTA 363 to rekindle relationship
Hi Rhodrich and welcome to the forum :D Congratulations on the purchase. That looks like a very smart convertible. I hope you are able to obtain the paperwork, as it adds provenance and so much character to the vehicle. I don't see why the admin team wouldn't be able to pass on a message or contact ...

So now they are called Mini Gems, Does this mean I should the return the packet I bought last week, demanding a refund and apology? The government has announced, new "all-lane running" smart motorways have been paused for 5 years, while their safety is assessed. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-59956911 However, hard shoulders will not be reinstated on current stretches of all-lane running motorways. Apparently, sch...

Found a 3 inch Lucas light unit, not sure what it's from, but with a red LED in it, maybe?! The Lucas L691 / L692 were available with clear, red or amber lenses, and I believe fitted to various vehicles. Spare parts and different colour lenses are still easily available. Just a word of caution... T...

Re: Negative earth v positive earth
As people have already said, both positive and negative earth systems seem to work equally well. In fact a lot of old automotive electrical equipment wasn't polarity sensitive, and would work on either positive and negative earth systems. The main issue is when you want to fit modern equipment or ac...

Re: Dynamo v Alternator
There is absolutely no need to change from a Dynamo to an Alternator unless you need the extra current. Having an alternator can actually leave you in a more stranded position, since a dynamo system will give indications that it is not at optimum performance, if you know what to look for. Whereas a...
