Re: Ignition completely dead, two hours after working perfectly

I will do a proper job, as soon as I have a chance. The jury-rigged version has plenty of current capacity and no exposed metal but terminal blocks will be much better.

Re: Ignition completely dead, two hours after working perfectly

Well - you MUST get them all joined up somehow - it IS the problem.... It was the problem, so thanks ever so much. I made up an H-shape from two layers of some thin steel plate I had lying around (OK, an instant coffee can) and insulated the middle section with gaffer tape. The Lucar connecto...

Re: Ignition completely dead, two hours after working perfectly

If A and A1 only had one wire each that would be easy, but there's already two connections on each of A and A1.

The only terminal blocks I have are 5A, which I think may be a little small...

Re: Ignition completely dead, two hours after working perfectly

I measured the voltage between the earth connection from the battery and the solenoid, and I get 12.7V. That suggests the terminals are OK. What's the connection between A and A1 on the control box? It looks like the lighting circuit is not getting supplied so it would seem that connection 'A' is no...

Re: Ignition completely dead, two hours after working perfectly

When I turn the key, nothing happens. No fuel pump, no lights, no ignition light. Nothing at all. Not sure how I can check for sparks or fueling.

What could have stopped all this working, two hours after it all ran just fine?

Ignition completely dead, two hours after working perfectly

Good evening all, It's about a hundred years since I posted on here, but behaviour of Wifey's car has me puzzled. Here goes: Driven a couple of times this morning, starting an running perfectly with no obvious faults. Parked up at 1pm. Around 3pm, Wifey attempts to start again, and nada. Nothing at ...

Re: SADMOG (Sowf'ampton taawn)

I plan to come out for the last time before I get submerged in the chaos that is a new term at school.

The Shed is running well so I could probably manage the Cricketers, if you mean the one in Eastleigh. I'll not complain if you come west, though.

Re: SADMOG (Sowf'ampton taawn)

Hi chaps,
there's a distinct possibility I can make it out tonight - any suggestions?

And if anybody has a spare bog-standard HS2 carb they could sell for a small sum, I'd be grateful.

Re: SADMOG (Sowf'ampton taawn)

Dunno really. We visited the Bold Forester on monday on our way back from the coast, and they have some nice beer on at the moment. A bit too skint to travel too far but I don't want to drag everybody west for my one thursday out in months. Any suggestions? I won't be in the Trav as it's not running...

Re: SADMOG (Sowf'ampton taawn)

Hello Gentlemen,
as it's the Easter holidays I have this odd stuff called 'spare time' :o and can make it out for a beer for the first time in months. Who's out tonight?

Re: SADMOG (Sowf'ampton taawn)

I'm about, given somewhere sufficiently westwards... Too skint to drive a long way.

I'll check back for a choice after the boys are in bed.

Re: SADMOG (Sowf'ampton taawn)

You'll not find me complaining about going to the Royal Oak (for that is the one), as it's
a) a great pub, and
b) about ten minutes away
:-)

Re: SADMOG (Sowf'ampton taawn)

I got a text message from somebody whose number my phone does not recognise, suggesting Ashurst. I'm happy with that, but I don't have Carlo's number to tell him. Can somebody pass on the news to him?

The car is in one of those tarpaulin shelters rather than a proper garage, and had frost all over it this morning. It's also 50 yards from the house so plugging anything in is not possible. Thanks for the advice, but as the next spare time I have is in July I think I'll have to get a chap in to look...

The engine doesn't have that connector thing for a handle, so no dice there. In any case, it's a brand-new massive battery, and charging it overnight doesn't help the car start. I agree, Jeff, about sorting the starting issue, but I might spend all weekend trying to fix it (assuming the spares order...
