Re: 1953 (March) Series II Restoration
Really interesting work. Just out of interest what was the three panel of the headliner made of and how was it covered. Are you intending to reuse the old headlining or make anew one.

Re: Chassis paint
For what it is worth I used Frost’s chassis black. I found it reasonably priced and delivery was very prompt. It went on well but was thick enough not to drip excessively. I used it on the wheel arches, chassis legs and floor pan. I gave it two coats and then wax oiled.

Re: door handles
Jeff You can find them if you are lucky. I actually got a complete set for £50 including postage off someone who was breaking a four door. The chrome on my original ones were very pitted and I understand that the cost of re-chroming is very high. However even on the “new set “ while three of the han...

Re: Ignition light / control box
Thanks for all your help / advice as always. It is a completely standard engine. The only thing that I have changed is to replace the original fuel pump. In doing this I had to reposition one of the earth wires. My intention is to start here and make sure that this is a good connection. I will then ...

Ignition light / control box
My car is not yet on the road but every few weeks I am in the habit of starting the engine and letting it run for a while. The last couple of times that I have done this when I turn the key the ignition / oil pressure lights come on as normal and the pump starts clicking but before the key has been f...

Simmic
Just changed all the oils but thanks for the suggestion. Seems that I was worrying needlessly.

Re: Prop shaft turning when in neutral
As Les suggested I have just tried to stop prop shaft with my hand. It stopped very easily with no real resistance to stopping. What now if anything?
Many thanks as always for all the help from this forum.

Prop shaft turning when in neutral
Some advice please. The car is currently up on axle stands with all the wheels off the ground and wheels and drums off. Today I started up the engine and noticed that although the gear box was in neutral the prop shaft and the rear hubs were slowly turning. Reving the engine did not appear to have a...

Re: Leak from fuel pump
As always thanks for the advice. The car isn’t on the road at the moment so I will try getting the kit and have a go at rebuilding it / replacing the parts that are needed.

Leak from fuel pump
Just noticed a leak from the fuel pump when pumping fuel. It is coming from the joint where presumably the fuel pump diaphragm is located. It is a old pump, possibly original, which occasionally sticks. Question is do I get a replacement diaphragm...approximately £30 from ESM and hope that this solv...

Re: Preparing a for for spraying
N I am just beginning to contemplate trying to spray my four door. If I can get a finish half as good as yours I will be really happy. I am approaching it from the point of view that they are fifty year old cars and as such don’t have to look as if they have come straight from the showroom. At the e...

Gearbox ...three questions
Underneath planning to change gearbox oil and have e noticed 1. The rubber dust cover on the O/S about 6 inches in front of the drain plug covering the clutch leaver is split. This presumably should be replaced and presumably this can be done with the gearbox in situ accepting that it will be quite ...

Re: Brake master cylinder boot
Sorry to keep asking questions. About to take the old MC out. There is no brake pedal return spring or obvious place where the brake pedal return spring is attached inside the chassis leg. This is presumably needed for the MC to work effectively. I am anticipating, therefore, therefore that I will h...

Brake master cylinder boot
Slowly working my way around the brakes renewing parts as I go. I think that I have done the four wheels...replaced cylinders as needed....but am still finding it hard to bleed the brakes satisfactorily. No obvious leaking from the master cylinder to be seen under the car but I have removed the cove...
