Re: Coolant temp sender
My temp gauge reads somewhere around 80, which seems a little low? but perhaps that is just because the sensor is a bit set back from where it was designed. Depends on several factors. What Thermostat is fitted? Were the sensor and the gauge a suitably 'matched' pair as their manufacturer intended?...

Re: Coolant temp sender
Thanks to everyone for their responses :tu1: As I was using a reducer without the concave bit I went with a smear of Loctite and a fiber washer which seems to have done the trick in so much as I couldn't see any leakage. My temp gauge reads somewhere around 80, which seems a little low? but perhaps ...

Re: Coolant temp sender
When you say block do you mean the cylinder head near the thermostat housing? Is it electric sensor or capillary type. , Sorry, yes. I should probably have said engine rather than block; it’s the hole in the head. There’s actually a temp sender there at the moment fitted by a previous owner, but it...

Coolant temp sender
Hello again :D I have a related-but-different follow-up to my post about oil pressure sensing. I have a coolant temperature sensor that is NPT thread. To make this fit the 5/8UNF threaded hole in my block I have purchased a reducer. My questions are: The NPT sensor doesn't go all the way into my red...

Thank you all! As ever, an absolute glut of knowledge
I like the idea of using the banjo/pickup for the filter.
Thanks everyone

Oil pressure switch 'T'
Hello all 8) I've been fitting some dials to Maurice and need to 'T' the oil pressure switch to fit an electric sender for the pressure gauge. I've seen various reports of it being a PITA to use a standard t-piece (such as this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B3CLTG1L), is there a better way, or do I...

Re: Replacing hinges
Well done so far. A properly adjusted door will close and clunk without undue effort. You may need to loosen the top frame, get the bottom part of the door closing correctly and then adjust the top. If you smear some Vaseline all round the door, then you should be able to see where the door is bind...

Re: Replacing hinges
So, thank you for the advice everyone! I have now fitted new hinges. I’m glad I didn’t bother thinking about drilling the existing ones. It’s been so stressful I almost smashed the car up out of pure anger. Also, my door is about 60% rust… but that’s a problem for another day :-? Thankfully my droop...

Replacing hinges
Hello! Since I've had my car the passenger side has required either a big slam or a lift and a slightly gentler slam to facilitate closing. I suspect the hinges are very worn as you can manually move the door to where it aligns. I've noticed it's rubbed the pillar so I feel like I ought to do someth...

Thanks, everyone!
I can't believe using a different fuel brand would make such a big difference, but it does seem to fit Guess I'll be avoiding Texaco from now on

Re: Fuel Pump Rapid Ticking
Thank you for your responses! :D :tu1: The symptoms seemed to be just after I’d pulled away generally, but went away when was up to moderate speeds. It also didn’t seemed to impact the running of the car just a short spell of furious clicking and then back to normal clicking. When I got back to the ...

Re: Fuel Pump Ticking
After a lot of reading around the internet this sounds a lot like the symptoms of fuel vapourising. It occurred to me that this is the first time I’ve used Texaco rather than Shell for my Morris fuel, and I’ve realised that the RON ratings are different (97 vs 99) for their premium products. I wonde...

Fuel Pump Rapid Ticking
Hello 👋🏼 Today I took the old boy out for a bit of a run. I noticed I was pretty low on fuel so I set off to the petrol station. I filled up with new, premium fuel and off I went. I immediately noticed my fuel pump was ticking rapidly as I set off. This continued for the rest of my journey, sporadic...

Re: Wiper arm ‘spindle’
I went out to have a rummage last night, but as predicted the spindle is stuck firm to the chrome finisher. There's also evidence of silicone up in and around the washer/spindle area so it does seem like a bit of a job as I don't imagine the spindle would separate from the finisher without a fight :...

Re: Wiper arm ‘spindle’
Hmm, yes, you make a good point. Looking at the excellent pictures in the other thread I can see where the peril lies. I'll have a fiddle at the weekend and see how it feels. I'm assuming that if I were to loosen the nuts pictured below I can extract the tubes and move them clear of the wiper box? h...
