Thanks Jaekl.
Are you saying I should find a purple wire connector, *and* and black wire connector, under the driver side (right side) glove box?
Any idea what that brown wire is for?
Thanks.

Re: MM 1000 Traveller
Thanks MM. A puzzlement indeed. The horn works, and both fuses are whole and clean (as are the terminals). I may be at the impasse of "do I really need the interior light?", as I don't want to pull wires under the roof fabric, and I've been down the rabbit hole of tracing old wiring with o...

MM 1000 Traveller
The overhead light in my 1957 Traveller doesn't come on. The bulb tests ok (filament continuity). I dropped the fixture and found *three* wires: black, brown, and purple. The various wiring diagrams show only two: black and purple. interior light.JPG I cleaned the terminals, but using my VOM with on...

Re: Another Minor anniversary
Thanks for posting the video. I can't help wondering, if that MM drove 10K miles without stopping, did a single driver accomplish the same?
And changing a rear wheel while the car remains in gear, seems quite astounding!

Re: Rain Issue
Hi Stephen - welcome to the Forum.
I'm not familiar with that engine. Could you post a photo of the engine area? As the problem occurs only at high speed (motorway) on rainy days, I'm wondering if water spray is hitting (and grounding?) the coil.

Re: Neg vs Pos earth
Yep - mine is the round heater. Ignition on, switch turned CW - no blade movement at any point on the rotation. I find no reference to heater on the wiring diagram in the owner's handbook. Where are the heater wiring terminals? Peering under the instrument panel, I can't see any connection points on...

Re: Neg vs Pos earth
Gentlemen - thanks again for the pointers and references. Fascinating reading, especially the negative vs positive rationale regarding body corrosion versus copper connector corrosion. I checked my coil, and it is wire correctly for negative earth. At least somebody knew what they were doing. Now to...

Re: Neg vs Pos earth
Thanks Keith. Dynamo, original fuel pump, and no radio, etc. Starter turns and starts the engine, which I assume would be impossible if the starter were running backward. Dynamo charges battery. "if conversion has been done right" - that's the key phrase. I have no idea how or when or by w...

Neg vs Pos earth
I received my 1957 Traveller last week. I notice the battery is connected Negative to earth (bolt on side of battery box).
Should I be worried?
Thanks.

Re: wood refinishing?
Thanks gents.
When using a scraper, is there some "pre-scrape" treatment used to soften the finish before pulling the scraper over it?

Re: Car dehumidifiers
James - you mention you keep your car outside, but you only notice water buildup in one specific spot. That's puzzling. The outside air carries the moisture, so a car outside is always exposed to some moisture. But I can't understand why you only notice the buildup in one small area; usually moistur...

Re: wood refinishing?
Thanks James. I'd not heard of the Burgess products before. Good idea to check with marine supply houses here. After sanding, I'm thinking of a finish such as:

Or maybe even just simple tung oil?

Re: Car dehumidifiers
James - I'd think that unless the car is in a climate controlled garage, small dehumidifiers would be fighting a losing battle.

wood refinishing?
Now that I've got my Traveller, I notice the finish on the wood is "peeling" off. fortythree.jpg The wood itself is solid, but the clear finish is cracking and peeling/flaking. Would I be correct in sanding off all the loose finish, then recoating with clear varnish, shellac, or polyuretha...

James - I notice "will not fit cars using Pull start", which mine has. I'm also asking Moss in USA about their choke cable for the early Sprite. Part #4 in this diagram:

Re: Winnie is home
Thanks James. I used the clothes peg trick on my old Triumph TR3. (I'm in Connecticut USA) I haven't had the courage to peer under the dash panel yet, but I think there's a "catch" or identation on the knob stem which may have worn away after 60+ years. If it's not a big problem to replace...

Winnie is home
Today I finally took delivery of my '57 Traveller. Winter storms delayed transport for almost six weeks. Minor arrival.JPG First off, I notice the choke knob can't be "locked" into position. I have to hold the knob pulled out. Once warm, and choke is released, the engine ticks over smoothl...
