Re: Just out of interest!
I often wonder how often an excess of free time leads us to "improve" things - which results in "dis-improvement".

Re: Bonnet pull conversion
I made an extension from a length of 3mm welding wire, about a foot long with a hoop at each end. Works fine and allows the radio to be sited under the metal dash on the right hand side of the steering wheel. The pull now rests freely on the parcel shelf in easy reach. Excellent improvement! Exactl...

Re: Bonnet pull conversion
My frugal Yankee ways tell me to put an extension on the ring under the dash. A sturdy metal coathanger. Cut away the curved sides which form the hook. Form a circle at each end of the straight length. Snap one circle into the original release ring; use the other circle to pull the release. The pull...

Thanks gents. As I don't get any notifications, I didn't know that thread exists.

notifications and emails?
Is there some way to get email notifications of new topics?
I've ticked all the right boxes, but still get no emails of new topics. Nor do I get emails notifying me of replies to threads I've "subscribed with email notifications of replies".
Thanks.

Re: Mixture control ("choke") cable
The carb tag shows AUC 944, so that's an HS2. Following your advice, I'm ordering the proper choke cable from ESM, plus some other needed bits (passenger side windscreen wiper and blade. Here's the present top and underside of the choke cable knob end. There are actually four notches on the top of t...

Re: Mixture control ("choke") cable
hmmm - and I'm beginning to wonder if I have the correct carb for the car. Take a look at the choke fitting, which is different from that shown in the manuals. The engine was replaced at some time in the past. And interestingly, Moss UK and Moss USA show the correct choke cable for my car (552xxx) i...

Re: Mixture control ("choke") cable
Update a few minutes later! I've removed the cable from the locking stud at the carb and pulled the cable in and out a few inches with no problem. Put the cable back in the hole in the lock, twisted half turn, tightened the set screw. Knob "C" is now correctly positioned. But - the knob no...

Re: Mixture control ("choke") cable
Monday update. Twisting that inner cable didn't change anything. Knob still won't catch when pulled out and turned. However, when choke is removed, I notice that the "C" on the knob is actually rotated 90 degrees, appearing as a fat inverted "U" pointing to the floor. If I twist ...

Re: Mixture control ("choke") cable
Thanks gentlemen. As mine seems relatively clean and not shopworn, seems it should actually work properly. That notch in the top of the cable, about two inches back from the end of the knob, must catch on something, but I don't feel any attempt to catch regardless of how far the knob is drawn out. I...

Mixture control ("choke") cable
On my '57 Traveller 948, I pull the choke knob fully out, and see a slight indentation in the top of the cable, at the point where it comes out of the dash panel when the cable is fully pulled. The handbook says "pull out and turn anticlockwise to lock". Turning the knob anticlockwise (or ...

Re: '57 Traveller wiper unit
After much fumbling, I found the nuts on the bolts (the bottom under the mount) are 11/32". I wonder what causes those rubber dampers to deteriorate so badly. They look "melted". wiper motor damper washer.png One of mine was actually like shiny black tar, soft and sticky. Blech.

'57 Traveller wiper unit
I'd like to replace the four (severely degraded) rubber spacers/dampers where the wiper unit sits on the mount plate.
Would anyone know what size the bolt heads are, on the underside of that plate? I tried 1/4" as on the wiper unit cover, but no luck.
Thanks.

Thanks Mike. Adding a second ground strap sounds good to me. The photos make the whole setup much clearer.

'57 Traveller engine earth/ground strap
I see no engine ground strap on my car. I do see new woven/stranded ground straps available for the MM 1000 from various suppliers.
Where is that ground strap to be found on the car? A photo would be very helpful.
Thanks.

Re: Engine ID
Sorry Rocco. Somehow I thought what you posted was what you saw on the engine! I've found a couple references here on the forum, regarding engine id numbers being embossed (raised) on the manifold side of the block. Mine is difficult to read, but shows: Front: MOWOG 158 Center: 950 051 Rear: 2A 799 ...

Re: Moggy traveller seat blocks
Thanks Simmitc. I wonder if hard rubber might be a better "seat raiser" material than wood. (Still dont' know why I receive no notification emails. The notifications show in the upper right of each page, but no emails arrive. I used to get them, but they stopped about a month ago, despite ...
