Re: Morris minor travelogue book
99% topic drift, but "Coleman's Drive", his account of driving across South America, was inspired by "Tschiffely's Ride - Southern Cross to Pole Star" in which the eponymous adventurer rides on two feral Argentinian horses from Buenos Aires to Washington DC in the 1920s. Coleman ...

Yeah, my clutch is more like an on/off switch. I would like purchase details too please.

Re: Travel chair
Slightly off-topic, but Sunbeam Talbot saloon cars have the front seats retained by spring-loaded push-in axle ends, a bit like a giant watch strap pin. The idea is that with a quick push of the fingers, the seats come out for use at picnics and other jolly outdoor activities.

Re: lowlight headlights
I repeat - the reflectors could be matt black and these bulbs would still work. They are projector bulbs. They shoot the light rays out like a gun therefore they don't need any reflection. They are adjustable for beam direction should the original bowls (now relegated to the sole role of bulb locati...

Re: lowlight headlights
OK, noted, but these bulbs operate just as well with dull otherwise unuseable reflector bowls. All the bowls need to do is hold the bulb in place.

I have these in my Riley and they are, er, illuminating.

Re: Sunvisors
That is interesting, Martin. I wonder if the Convertibles either don't have visors at all, or don't have the downstream plastic brackets intended to steady the trailing end of the visors? If that is the case it would explain the absence of axle protrusion, and also give me hope that the stiffening a...
Re: Sunvisors
The Downside of being a Cheapskate Only myself to blame. I was offered a pair of "new" sunvisors at about half price; bought many moons ago but never fitted. I snapped them up. What I didn't spot - and I'm pretty sure that the chap who offered them to me didn't either - was that they diff...

Re: How to show that I am a club member?
Hi Dusty Just did this a few weeks ago. Click on Profile in the drop-down list from the arrow by your user name top right, , then click on Edit Profile, you should see a box saying "MMOC Member?" with a Yes button and a No button. Click on the Yes button. I just checked and there is a box ...

Re: Assistance wanted NE England
Yes, I noticed that too. Some replies are bordeline rude. I don't know how hands-on the MMOC office is with these things; in my "main" (Riley) club it is left to individuals to offer help; maybe the MMOC, hopefully bigger and better, does have a strategy. That is more or less what I was as...

Assistance wanted NE England
A lady has posted on the FB page seeking advice re. the disposal of her late uncle's Morris Minor. I am new here, but in my Riley world we would normally mobilise a knowledgeable member close to the locus to offer to visit and appraise the vehicle. Is that a thing in the MMOC? If so, anyone Tyneside...

OK Mobylette, I haven't heard back from Mark so I will switch onto your offer. PM on way.

Re: Compression test
Based on my experience with other cars of similar age, I use the starting handle to perform a "compression test". For a rough n ready survey of an engine, I just give it a few twirls either on the starter or the handle, then deploy the handle and give four measured pulls. If all four pulls...

Re: New Moggy Owner
Funny you should mention divorce. My wife (50th Anniversary yesterday) is not overly impressed with old vehicles. Tolerant rather than appreciative. But she is extremely impressed with the fun you have when they are being used. Meals out and/or scenic drives with fellow owners; caravanning en masse;...

I just twisted the cables together to test for faults. I will solder the joints and run them through flexi tubing as part of the tidying-up process.
