Re: Front brake shoe steady springs.
The final result - bee hive springs arrived from ESM by return of post. I found them quite easy to fit once I had shortened the hook a tad, and compressed them in the vice and secured the coiled springs with little cable ties. I found that if I got into exactly the right position, I could see behind...

Re: Front brake shoe steady springs.
Hey guys - just wanted to say thanks to the forum, and to those who have posted on this thread. Until I read this, I had no idea that my 1971 6cwt van should have the bee hive shoe retainers. But armed with my new-found knowledge I re-checked the wsm, whipped a rear drum off and saw the bracket inte...

Re: Horn push
So there is!
Mind you, for the saving in price I have decided to plump for the new ESM one.
Thanks for the rpely though.

Horn push
I am trying to re-establish a working horn push in the two-spoke steering wheel centre on my 1971 6cwt van. I tried gingerly to lever the horn push out of the wheel centre. Guess what- it broke. I was as gentle as I could be. What did I do wrong? Also, how do I redress this catastrophe? Bite the bul...

Re: Cellulose Paint
H. Marcel Guest make paint near me in Manchester; I have been using them for nearly 40 years.
One of their execs onsite is a bigwig in the MMOC local scene.
Worth a phone call at least.

Re: Paging engine i.d. experts
Well spotted and good point. It looks as though I will be going down the new chassis route, but the engine mounts might not wait that long. I may already have some; I have a funny feeling that I use MM ones to reclaim Riley engine mounts. If not, they will form part of my bid to become a major share...

Re: Paging engine i.d. experts
The block casting number - not the engine capacity is cast into the block. From the casting number the original size of the engine can be determined. The 1098cc engine has a stamped plate attached at the N/S front of the block which has 1100 stamped on it. Would that be the missing plate as per my ...

Paging engine i.d. experts
Would anyone like to tell me about my engine? It is obviously rebuilt because it is painted green. But what is it? The engine number is not much help, see atached photo. So what do I have? It is in a 6cwt van 1970, so presumably should be a 1098. What can I look for to confirm this? noenginenumber1....

Re: In a Former Life
I have just noticed that I claimed to have worked a 5-2 mornings shift.
It wasn't that bad; I actually worked 5-1 mornings.
I would have edited my first post but can't for the life of me find an edit facility.

In a Former Life
An anecdote on the MMOC FB page reminded me of a strange shift pattern I once worked. I was sent to Newquay Police Station as a Cadet back in the mid-1960s. I was even then known to be an avid tinkerer on anything mechanical. My main purpose in life was to keep my BSA Sunbeam scooter running; the fa...

Re: Car now hardish to start
I don't know how things are in Morrisland, but over on Planet Riley we have been beset with inferior electrical repro products chief amongst which are rotor arms. They were made from some horrible plastic which is rumoured to have a high carbon content to make it black; this has the unfortunate effe...

Re: High level LED brake light instead of reflector.
To remain legal, you would have to have reflectors somewhere. When I say somewhere, the location of rear reflectors is laid down somewhere in the appropriate legislation. It may be that there are high-intensity brake lights with inbuilt reflectors; I don't have any experience of the new-fangled ligh...

Re: Brake Pedal Spring
Well here's a photo of mine, since it's in bits at the moment. It'll confirm for you where the Lug should be (assuming mine is right of course). 20220214_200853.jpg Phil's idea is pretty sound, the only other reasonable suggestion is to drill a hole, and bolt down your own little mounting lug. If y...
