Hi Stephen..
I’m in it for the long haul I think so I’ll order an assorted pack. I’ve started the nut and bolt collection and am always on the look out for some bundles when I see them..
Thanks so much
Duncan

Split pin sizes - bonnet release
Hi all I’ve had the bonnet release for my morris minor 1000 apart and refurbed. Every single split pin was severely corroded and was broken when taking them out. Does anyone know what size the split pins are I need to look for please? I bloomin hate the things at the best of times and was considerin...

Re: Painting Dashboard
Thankyou all for your answers!! Manyminors, your absolutely right.. I’ve put so much time into the car that I’d be disappointed if the finish was sun standard just because I didn’t prep properly. Panky, thanks.. I’ll have a look on eBay for the discs. Steve, you’ll know the frustration I felt seeing...

Re: Painting Dashboard
Hi Steve. Thanks for your reply!! I was going to go down the coach enamel route from paintman as they seem to sell the sage green which I’ve discovered was the original colour of the car - this was found when I removed one of the rear lights. The outside, although laborious, seems to be sanding with...

Painting Dashboard
Hi. Just wondering if anyone else had experienced this….. I’ve stripped out and begun sanding and prepping my MM for painting. It’s currently a very rich dark green. The paint finish on the outside left a lot to be desired. In areas I think the paint had been put on quite thickly and had cracked. Wh...

Re: Headgasket or thermostat
Thank goodness I found this post. I’ve removed the thermostat today and found it to be solid with crud. I haven’t ventured yet to look for the drain plug on the block but will have a look over the weekend and see what kind of a state it’s in. Thank goodness for this forum yet again!

Re: Orbital sander advice
Brilliant!! Thankyou so much!! I’d looked into a compressor and air tools and it was going to work out so expensive, so I’ll definitely be taking myself off down to screwfix..!!
Thankyou!!!
Thankyou!!!

Re: Orbital sander advice
Thankyou for your responses all!! I’d been looking at the Bosch blue sander Svenedin.. is yours the battery sander or a mains powered? @unclealec - I’d seen and read that air sanders were far and away more superior. I am just thinking of the benefits of just taking the plunge and buying an air compr...

Orbital sander advice
Hi there I am setting about the task of sorting my paintwork out soon which seems to be covered in cracking which I assume is from the many layers of paint over the years. My boot was the prime example of layers of paint being thickly applied. I’ve bought an orbital sander from toolstation, just the...

Panel wipe
Hi all I’m just about to undertake my first attempt and sanding and spraying the boot lid of my MM. Just wondering, pre sanding and painting what people recommend as a panel wipe. I’ve read various suggestions online ranging from Upol panel wipe to Screwfix heavy duty degreaser. Does anyone have any...

Yes.. I’ve just had a break and tried again and no avail… I’ll go for the new battery option I think.. unless I’m advised otherwise.

Non starting - battery..??
Hi there I’ve come to start my 1958 morris today and have what I believe is a flat battery - but before I go and get a new one I just wanted to check a few things.. So - I turn the ignition on and get red and green lights on the dash. I pull the start and get a very laboured attempt at trying to sta...

Re: Oil filler cap
Yes Nettie I absolutely agree I could become far too engrossed in the car and trying to achieve original perfection. I think I’ll do the little bits as they crop up and maybe do it bit by bit. I do appreciate your detailed answer Manyminors and the idea of having the car completely original would be...

Oil filler cap
Hi there So I noticed an annoying rattle coming from the engine bay of my 1958 1000 minor. Thankfully I was able to see straight away that it was the oil filler cap that isn’t going into place very well at all and is bouncing around. My first plan is to get a new filler cap and see if that resolves ...

Re: Cracking on boot lid
No, I fully appreciate that preparation is the key so would rather give it a proper go than a half attempted rush job, so thankyou… I’ll be getting some discs as advised by Kevin and taking it back to metal. Just out of interest and while I start googling the heck out of this - is there anywhere any...

Re: Cracking on boot lid
Perfect..!!! Thankyou Myrtles Man!! Exactly what I was hoping to hear! It all of a sudden appears achievable now!! The bike pic you post is and outstanding example! If I can get a finish anything close to that I’ll be happy.. Taking the boot as an example, am I still best taking it back down to meta...
