Re: Cracking on boot lid
So….. I’ve been mulling over what to do for a few days… and I bought my minor as a project and to learn different skills - so would really like to give the paint a go myself. Areas like the door sills need doing and as pictured, the boot.. I appreciate the finish isn’t going to be showroom, but part...

Re: Cracking on boot lid
Thankyou everyone for your responses. I’d really like to do as much work on this as I can… so I will speak to a body shop and see what their thoughts are. Looking round the rest of the car, although it’s not cracking, the paint is pretty thick and crappy in places.. I’d hoped some were and dry sandi...

Cracking on boot lid
Hi there After refurbing the door hinges and stripping out the interior of my Minor I was hoping to set to work on the bodywork. I’m quite used to polishing paintwork and using heavy compound on a DA machine so was hoping I could really bring the paint up nicely and get rid of a lot of imperfections...

Door adjustment or new hinge
Hi everyone. Just after a little guidance on my front drivers door please. My cars a 1958 4 door. The drivers door is a bit awkward to close in that it needs to be lifted up and slammed quite firmly. I’ve read in my manual about adjusting the catch plate so not so concerned about the slamming, but t...

Door draught excluder
Hi there I’m looking to replace the draught excluder trim on my 1958 4 door morris. I’ve been told that originally the trim would have been material finish, but there is now a rubber version available. I’m thinking of going back to what the car would have had and fit the material trim but have now f...

Positive earthed..???
Hi there, So, bare with me… I’m new to this. I have a 1958 Morris Minor 1000 that I collected last week. I was having a little look this morning and noticed the battery terminals were loose. So, tightened them and realised the negative terminal is connected to the main loom of the car and the positi...

Re: Newbie oil leak
Update - all done. The state of both gaskets was pretty poor but the bottom section of the rear gasket was completely gone. Bit of a pig to get to and line up the bolts while getting the cover and gasket to line up but got it done in the end. Thankyou all for your help! Quarter light windows and the...

Re: Newbie oil leak
Perfect, thanks ‘myoldjalopy’..
I’m quite excited to get into the rocker cover as the silicon type muck around is intriguing me. That’ll be for another thread though I’m sure - when I get it off and am thinking crikey! Lol.
Thankyou all!!

Re: Newbie oil leak
Just a little update and question about this fix please. Ordered new gaskets and fibre washers and whilst waiting for delivery gave the block a good gunking. All leaking from the rear tappet chest cover.. I’ve been reading a number of posts about changing the rocker cover gasket and it’s suggested t...

Re: Newbie oil leak
Hi Phil
Thankyou very much for your reply!!
I’ll order a gasket now. The fibre washer on the bolts, are they just a standard fibre washer from any hardware shop or should I look for specific washers on the morris minor spares website.
Thanks
Duncan

Re: Newbie oil leak
Thankyou all very much for your responses!! Jo - I’ll get a picture of the rocker cover. I’m just getting to have a good look over things, but yes, I did wonder about the sealant. Myoldjalopy and Les - I’ll definitely have a look at the tappet chest cover. Thankyou!! I’ll give it a good clean down a...

Newbie oil leak
Hi there Having collected my first Morris Minor this weekend, I am absolutely loving it!! On the drive home I noticed that there was oil dripping onto the floor… not a trickle but several drips a minute. Having got it home - ran perfectly, sounded fine I opened the filler cap and mayo type muck in t...

Re: Quarter light rubbers and latches
Thankyou everyone for your responses!! It’s a daunting old thing this classic car ownership, so I really do appreciate the help. I think I’ll go down the line of replacing the whole quarter light then. They’ve both gone so it’d be a pair I need. I’ll have a look at where I advertise for them on here...
