Re: 1954 series 11 black 4 door
Right, here is a picture of my engine in Olds gold. This is the paint I used, funny stuff....only worked well when sprayed due to its high pigment content. http://www.frost.co.uk/por15-olds-gold-engine-enamel-paint-473ml.html Hope this helps, YG[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1374612144_5...

Re: 1954 series 11 black 4 door
When repainting my engine Gold I used some american stuff from Frosts, I believe it was called "Olds Gold" or possibly "Olsmobile gold". Will dig out a picture of the engine once it was sprayed in this.

Re: Rear hubs, bearings and gaskets - most amusing they are!
I hate to throw my oar into this, as it seems to be a slightly heated discussion. BUT, I remember when replacing the hub bearings on my '57 4 door, and once assembled (correctly) and torqued (correctly)the hubs could slide, only slightly, relative to the outer race of the bearings. After much head s...

Re: An update and some sad news
Thanks for the words chaps. Here is a link to some pictures I took a couple of days ago, I'm waiting for some decent weather so I can get all the boxes out of the other shed to photograph. As can be seen, the car is completely and totally repaired underneath and nicely waxoyled. I was thinking of pu...

An update and some sad news
Hello all, I've been away for a while, as the moggy lives down in Devon and I study up in Oxford, hence very little has happened in terms of progress in the last year. I have got to the stage where I have decided to continue my studies to do a masters and then with some luck, a PhD. Hence my moggy p...

Re: Engine bay advice
The engine can be taken out with the help of a rope and another person.....and some careful planning. But I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT! An engine hoist from Machine mart is a very worth while investment, now nothing of mine has its engine in!

There's a lot of controversy surrounding this conversion, the general consensus being that if you can stick with the Woleseley/riley cylinders....do so!

Re: HS2 rebuild kits
Right mines definately an H2 in that case!
I also have an HIF38 lying about, but am a little apprehensive of putting it on. Is it worth it and if so what needle should I be using in it if I am running a standard set up?
Sorry for all the questions!

Re: HS2 rebuild kits
Well its in pieces in the ultrasound tank at the moment, so it will need new gaskets etc anyway, i might as well renew the jets etc whilst im at it as the full kit is only about a tenner more expensive than the gasket set! So theres an H2 and an HS2? This is news to me. Are there any easy to tell si...

HS2 rebuild kits
Hi all, I need to rebuild/service the carb on my moggy before putting it back on the rebuilt engine, now my car is a 1957 model with the 948 engine.....ESM kindly sells a kit for HS2 carbs from 1957-1959. One would think that I could simply pluck for that. BUT the engine in mine is a Gold seal repla...

Re: Engine bay advice
Thats some impressive engine bays being shown off there....ill have to get mine on show! Regards prep, I used a combination of wire brush on the angle grinder, sand flap disc, cup brush and pencil brush on drill and the shotblaster for the very tricky bits! Rust treatment: Kurust Base paint: Isopon ...

Re: Engine bay advice
I also recommend removing as many of the cable and hose clips/tags as possible as they are a good place for grit and crud to collect that will spoil your new paint! If any of the spot welded tags that hold down the brake lines etc are rusted, now would be a good time to replace them or at least gent...

Wheels and tyres
Seeing as, amazingly, its something that I will soon be bolting back onto the Moggy (gasp), i thought it best to ask about wheels and tyres. First off, Im guessing the best thing to do with the cross plys is chuck them in the bin and get some radials? BUT what size and what make is best. Also, ive s...

I wouldnt put a K series in anything but a bin.....just spent 3 months studying the damn things at Uni. Great piece of design badly executed, and even if you replace everything that should be they're still fragile as hell!

Re: Spraying engine bay/boot
The front grill is a tricky one, i tracked down a local company and had mine sandblasted, only way to get into all the difficult areas.
