Re: Vin plate, Nunber Plate and V5 for sale !!
That'll be the one with tandem wipers, fresh air inlet heater and toggle switch dashboard then? A friend whos looking for a pickup had already drawn my attention to it. Guess it could have been rebuilt with a 'doner' cab...

Re: Morris minor caravanette
I remember the 'other' one you mention. Owner used to have autojumble stalls with it. Saw it at Malvern, three counties showground once and at a MMOOC national, possible Harewood. Looked nicely made and designed and I think I heard it had gone to someone in Ireland which I guess could be why it disa...

Re: Morris minor caravanette
Saw it on +1 when I got in from work. Very good and nice to see 'The Snail' rebuilt and enjoyed again. I considered buying this when it was offered for sale at the LCV 50th rally at Avoncroft in 2003. I chickened out and bought my own van at the same do instead. I believe its had a few owners and ma...

As far as I know, all post office vans were built as 6cwt vans and had the standard car 3.5j rims. 8cwt commercials were an option from the late 60s onwards which explains their scarcity these days...

Re: Total Loss Salvage Value process
Regarding the convertible, I'd recommend as others have done that you strip it down to rolling shell on the front end, pay for it to be checked and straightened on a jig, then rebuild yourself. Seen a similar convertible done last year which had one bent chassis leg (upwards) and the other cracked m...

Re: Total Loss Salvage Value process
I had my van declared a total loss by Footman James several years ago (fairly heavy head on with a Corsa). I was fortunate enough that it was close to home and my wife came out and towed me the 2 miles home on a rope. (It still steered, rolled and braked). When my knee recovered about a week later I...

Change of body type DVLA
Hi, Anyone had a recent experience with dealing with the DVLA regarding convertible conversions? Done one or two in the past and the worst that could happen was a trip to the local DVLA office to have the chassis plate looked at. Bit wary now its a faceless bureaucracy and have heard one or two nast...

A lot were dashboard transfers, stickers or small plates usually between speedo and passenger glove box. (Pre series 5 and ally dash trim) or larger plate on the kick plate visible when door opened....

Re: Interior Colour
I used to have a '72 teal blue Marina with a Limeflower interior and I always used to say that the best place to be was driving it so you were looking out rather than in..... However I must have mellowed over the years as I quite like those mad early 70s hues now. Had Harvest Gold and Sandglow...

Re: Interior Colour
I'd guess the original poster's traveller was probably Limeflower, a colour that many don't like and lots have been resprayed more traditional colours.... You can usually find some original paint if you look under the dashboard with a torch.

Re: How to find out if factory convert
Feeling under the rear parcel shelf area for spot weld bumps v screw holes is the only sure fire way of telling a genuine convertible as Rob T said. It's relatively easy to weld in the stiffening pieces to look like original ones or even make b post brackets that look like originals (ones in the kit...

Re: Chroming stainless.
I did wonder about plating stainless window frames for my MM as the originals are badly pitted. I know a lot of people would just fit the stainless and say "its shiny" but itsa very different look and not the same. Could use painted steel frames I suppose and have those plated....

Re: Convertible hood safety catch
Must be a problem of not pulling the header rail down far enough for the wing bolts to engage with the notch which I suppose is possible especially with a new tight hood. If concerned, you could look at 'overcentre catches' form the Vintage supplies and kitcar market. Maybe somthing suitable there.....

Re: Chassis woes
If you fit a new chassis I would suggest that you keep the old chassis until the new chassis / chassis number is accepted & confirmed with DVLA & correctly entered on the vehicle documentation. Phil What chassis number? Originals were never stamped and I doubt if new ones are. DVLA accept c...

Re: Tyre advice needed
Those Pirellis do look the part. I was sad when my last pair of old ones got too old to use, so definitely an option I'll explore again. I've only used bigger sizes 155s etc to try and get a better visual look from the side of tyre filling the wheel arch but thsn if looks were all that mattered I'd ...
