I've had no problems with stuff from VWP, but I've always found Autosparks to be helpful, knowledgeable, and pleasant to deal with, and it's comforting to know that the stuff they sell is the same as they use for their own products, like looms for very demanding customers.

Re: Another security breach
Mentioning Linux was pure mischief on my part: sorry. I know of one car club database, for a club comparable in size to the MMOC, that is hosted locally - it even uses MSAccess. A proper hosting company should indeed have high levels of security, but how many individuals have the requisite passwords...

Re: Another security breach
Don't you get confused as to where you are with dozens of addresses, and as a layman what is the reason for so many ? I have two. :o I registered my own domain, partly because it meant I could very easily forward emails through whichever ISP I'm using at the time. Thus every year or so I swap ISP, ...

Another security breach
I've commented before about breaches in the Club's data security. Those who use one email address for many purposes may not have realised the source of some of their spam, phishing attacks, or malware-bearing mail, but I use a email addresses for this site which I don't use anywhere else. Four of th...

Re: 1931 Morris minor
You'd probably get better answers from the Morris Register or the Pre-war Austin 7 club, as most folk here are primarily into post-cars. The nearest comparison from my own direct experience is between a Series 1 Morris 8 (1937) (which I learned to drive on) and an Austin 10 Lichfield. The brakes wer...

Re: spam to MMOC email address?
After the spam/malware epidemic described above, I registered a new email address with this forum and set the old ones to bounce any incoming mail. All went quiet until this week, when some more arrived, sent to the latest address. I've not used this address or disclosed it elsewhere - not even for ...

Re: spam to MMOC email address?
Bots trawl the whole web (inc forums) looking for email addresses and phone numbers. It's a fact of modern life. This is the most likely answer rather than the forum being hacked, how many email addresses do you have? The email address you use for this forum, is it used purely for this forum? Have ...

Re: spam to MMOC email address?
I had an email address which I've only ever used for this forum, and have recently received a few spam/phishing emails - the most recent this morning also claiming to be from HSBC. Sorry, Roy, but it almost certainly is likely to be something to do with the forum - these people don't just send email...

... or unless someone has fitted the wrong type of coil in the past. Even if the box says it's the right one, you must check the primary resistance by disconnecting the terminals and measuring the resistance between them. Search this forum for views on the correct value.

Look I just mean Ill cover expenses.. I didnt need a lecture!!! Some phrase about doing something awful to one's own chips springs to mind here... This club has many younger members: they are enthusiastic, and the future of the club, indeed of the classic car movement, but sometimes people don't im...

Re: A treat for my dad's 80th
May I, with respect, suggest that you do not offer (in public, anyway) to pay for this? If you take a passenger "for a consideration" - which could be money, or goods, or even discounts from a future service - you come under "hire or reward" regulations. You would need to make su...

Re: Number plate.
There have been several wrong assertions in this thread, some of which will reinforce firmly entrenched, but wrong, ideas about the process of reissuing registrations. Two examples from my personal experience: My late father owned an MG1100 from 1967 to the late 80s. It was a 1963-built car, origina...

I have to agree that the moderators do a difficult job extremely well: yes, they'll make the odd misjudgement, as we all do, but on the whole, this is one of the best-run messageboards I read. Back onto the topic of RH. I insure three classics with them, and although I've never had to claim, I know ...

It's dark under your bonnet, and a good few miles away, so go on, give us a clue.
Which model of Minor?
What wires (what colours) are connected to each terminal of your control box?
Do any of them look like add-ons, or are they all part of the original loom?

Re: dip lights not working - main beam good
For a simple check: get your head and hands under the dash to see and reach the dip switch. Leave the blue wire in place, and swap the other two over. If the dip beam now works, but the main beam doesn't, it was the switch at fault, and you can at least drive the car around town while you decide wha...

Re: Back Brake Light
The other common factor between horn and interior lights is that they are both switched on the return (earth) side, unlike anything else on the car. This can be puzzling at first for anyone who isn't aware, and hasn't had a look at the circuit diagram, and these people probably keep fuse makers in b...

Re: Engine backfire
Let's say the mixture is a tad on the weak side, and the cylinder pressures at compression is at its highest (size 13 to the floor, so little throttling, so maximum charge). The HT voltage to initiate firing is thus as high as it ever is, and might just be a bit too much for the leads, cap, rotor ar...

Re: Tyre wear
Very good points from Richard. I'd add that I think the eyebolt shank is 9/16", but I could well be wrong. In any case, I'd prefer to make my own spacers rather than use washers, which may not be big enough to spread the load properly. If you did go for U-shaped spacers - and they do save a lot...

Re: Tyre wear
The trouble with taking it to an ordinary tyre place is that they probably won't know how to adjust the camber by packing under the eyebolt, and until this is right there's no point in adjusting the toe-in, as varying the camber changes the alignment. They probably won't have a Whitworth open-ended ...
