Original boot prop is a headache waiting to happen! I ran a die on the bottom end (Oba I think) and this allows a nut to be put on and stops it lifting out - I use a wing nut.

Re: Tappet adjustment on MM sidevalve engine
Not the easiest of jobs! By removing everything that's in the way will make things so much easier to wield 3 spanners and a feeler gauge while upsidedown. Try not to lean too heavily on the radiator - I broke the soldered brackets off mine (and I was lighter then! Can't imagine how this could be per...

Re: Lawnmower Carburettor Ethanol ?
If the Morris is not to be used for a while I have always allowed the engine to use what's in the float chamber by turning off the fuel pump using it's isolation switch, surprising how long it can run!

Re: How many of you can weld, and how did you learn?
When I restored my Morris I only had the choice of gas or not - so I chose gas! Scrounged loads of sheet steel from work and just practiced, I didn't want any lap joints, all butts so you couldn't see I'd been there. Pleased with the outcome although doing it upsidedown wasn't much fun but pleased w...

Sounds a great idea - all those 0.2 ohms quickly add up.

Worrying
Not solely Minor related but like many on here I only have older cars as well as my MM. All are well looked after and cherished in a way most motorist's wouldn't understand so when I found this video it was most concerning and the way the world is going I believe it has some substance. Has anyone he...

Re: New springs longer than old ones
A few years since I replaced my springs but mine showed contact with the rear flange and I also relieved it to clear the spring end.
They all seem too long as I would suggest the shackle ought to be more vertical when unloaded?

Re: SU pump valve discs
Thanks for your replies! Don't remember reading anything about a particular side to face the seat, in fact both sides look identical and appear as though they have been rumble deburred which has left a less than smooth surface. Not a big deal I know but could have been avoided if (as others have fou...

SU pump valve discs
Rebuilt my pump recently and replaced some original parts which included the valve discs from Burlen. The new one's appeared to have a shot blasted look to them or possibly they had been deburred in a rumbler type machine? This gives a slightly broken surface to the discs. The pump works well but wi...

Re: Pumping out fuel
I have just used the car's petrol pump to empty my tank - ran it untill it was pumping air.
Couldn't believe how little was left in the tank when I finally removed it, about a pint or so!

Re: Door shuts
Some door sealing rubbers are harder/slightly bigger than others, I sourced a softer seal but still had to tweak inwards the flange that it's pressed on.
Can't remember where I got the seal from - few years ago now!

Petrol tank sealant
Looking down the filler into the original petrol tank of my 52 MM I decided it could be rusty and I would treat it and seal the insides with Fertan Tapox tank sealant after derusting. So this afternoon I popped the tank onto the bench and removed the sender to get a better look inside and I was amaz...

SU pump assembly
Just used a rebuild kit from Burlen on my 70 year old pump. Looking very good inside but the diaphragm had got very 'firm' compared to the new! The Morris manual suggests powering the diaphragm into operated position before tightening the six assembly screws but the Burlen instructions make no refer...

It might not be coded? But if it is the loss will be instantaneous! There are units that plug into the accessory socket to maintain codes etc, I know Draper do/did one.

Radiator drain tap
Draining my sidevalve MM using the radiator drain valve I found it very tight to turn. Did manage to open the valve and it drained well. Unscrewed it from the radiator and dismantled it, all looked good and it seemed it was 'just sticky'. Thinking about it I probably applied a graphite grease on ass...

SU pump diaphragm
My 1952 MM still has the original SU pump diaphragm which has never given any problems.
I bought a spare diaphragm probably 10/13 years ago but with the addition of ethanol to the fuel I should really purchase and fit suitably resistant one.
Any recommendations for a supplier?

Re: Fuel pipe pump to carb ID?
I wouldn't use a braided hose, stick to ethanol proof fuel hose. Years ago I could smell petrol under the Morris bonnet but couldn't see anything visible, discovered it was the hose leaking within the braid and was being spread around the braid weaving by capillary action and was evaporating as fast...
