Re: Crank bushes.
Well, it is stronger, and has synchromesh on 1st. Snag is, it's alot bulkier and heavier, and needs quite a bit of bodywork modification to make it fit. One reason I never got around to fitting a Ford Type 9 5-speed gearbox to mine, despite getting the kit, which I sold on after realising the amount...

Re: 1098cc and Ford T9 Pairing
With a bit of luck, it may be just worn big end bearings, in which case, you can replace them without having to take the engine out (assuming the crankshaft journals are not badly worn). You would need to raise the front of the car, remove the sump, check for play in the bearings by waggling the con...

Certainly, 0.508mm = 20 thousands of an inch, so I'd guess they are indeed +0.020".

Re: Self-Centering Steering
Yes, it should self-centre quite readily. I suggest you carefully check the trunnions and steering rack/track rod ends to ensure all move smoothly as they should, and replace any that have undue stiffness or slackness; you may have to partially dismantle the suspension to find the culprit(s). The st...

Re: Ford discs-sticking caliper?
Do you have the alloy hubs? The earlier versions were prone to the bearing(s) spinning within the alloy housing, as one of mine did; I had to take it to a machine shop to have it re-bored and a spacer sleeve fitted, and Loctited into place. The Ford calipers are normally (i.e., as supplied with the ...

Re: Long engine stabiliser
Indeed, the original bulkhead mounting bracket has a tendency to crack (as the one on my 1970 Traveller has), so the longer steady bracket should theoretically give a far sturdier support, to help prevent the engine rocking on its mounts as you change gear, thus making for less NVH (noise, vibration...

Rear brake slave cylinders - which are best?
Does anyone have any recommendations for decent rear brake cylinders for the later 1000s? One of mine has seized up, so I shall have to replace it (or both) soon. Are the Borg & Beck ones any good, or are they as bad as their clutches are latterly reported to be? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-B...

Re: 5-leaf rear springs on a Traveller
Thanks for the reply. :) This was the way I was thinking. Nowadays, I rarely load mine right up, which leaves the rear end ride somewhat choppy and bouncy over the local roads; the original springs I think are pretty tired now, as the ride height is definitely somewhat lower than when they were new....

5-leaf rear springs on a Traveller
Has anyone tried fitting 5-leaf rear springs on a Traveller? I was wondering if this would improve the ride compared to the usual stiffness, particularly if the car is rarely loaded up heavily...

Funnily enough, I spotted a Traveller for sale on E-bay today that also had no jacking points on the ends of the crossmember, though the rest of the underside looked in reasonable condition: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1968-MORRIS-MINOR-TRAVELLER-GREAT-ENTRY-CLASSIC-SOLID-WOODY-OWNER-35-YRS/203322307...

Re: Can I get rid of dark patches in Traveller Wood?
Oxalic acid (available from yacht chandlers, or in some 'fallout remover' products) can be used to bleach the dark areas, prior to the usual treatments being applied once it's dried out after a few days.

Is there any current-day availability to obtain sleeved rear brake slave cylinders, or even just the sleeves, does anyone know?
One of mine has seized - they only seem to last a couple of years or so, and it's annoying to have to keep replacing the things!

Re: Purists look away now
Very nice conversion job. Be interesting to see how it compares to a standard or 1275-engined Traveller, in terms of overall driveability, practicality, economy, performance, etc.
