Painting steel, aluminium and fibreglass

Hi,

I'm hoping to respray my traveller.
I have sprayed a saloon before so I'm comfortable with prepping and painting steel, but this has fibreglass wings and of course an aluminium roof. What are the best methods to use for stripping, prepping and painting each of these?

Thanks,
Andy

Re: Emily's new interior

For the benefit of James who asked about the rear foot arrangement, I have fitted a better foot since the last photographs were taken (and found a better camera). I made two legs from box section welded to the original runners, these are attached to a steel strip which can bolt to the floor, I angle...

Re: 1961 2-door saloon (Sidney)

Hello, I realised I never actually finished this thread off. Sidney is on the road and driving, there are still lots of little jobs to be done but at least we'll be ready for the 2014 show season :) Here are some final pictures I took towards the end of last year.[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.p...

No starter, just a click

Hi, I've been having problems with the traveller for a while now, quite often when i try to start it I get nothing but a click and the speedo lights go out. It starts fine on the handle and all electrics work. Given that it never chugs slowly on the starter and sometimes it works fine im pretty cert...

Re: 1961 2-door saloon (Sidney)

Hiya, im not sure when I'll next be at a show, I might have to wait till next year before I can show Sidney off! Still not finished yet anyway :P But to prove he is driveable, here he is on his first petrol stop since 2008 [frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1379279588_6735 [/frame] This week...

Re: Blocked water passages

Also, can anyone tell me what path the water actually takes through the engine? so I can get an idea where the blockage is. Mainly because the heater is still working and helping to cool it.

Blocked water passages

Hello,
After a problem of overheating and attempting to flush the system there seems to be a large blockage inside the engine block, when removing the drain plug nothing came out and nothing seems to be flushing through, even if you run the engine with the plug out
Any tips?

Thanks

Re: 1961 2-door saloon (Sidney)

I just love how helpful the mmoc is, theres always somebody keen to lend a hand. As soon as i mentioned the outcome of the MoT I had a visit from Matt Tomkins and Chris Ryder (and Lil)[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1377380815_6735 [/frame] They worked really hard to get my brakes up to s...

Re: 1961 2-door saloon (Sidney)

After a lot of struggling to get the windscreen fitted with the original and slightly twisted chrome strip, we got there, though it did involve a rather strange method with lots of electric tape! I attended a wedding in Thaxted, Essex yesterday, I parked on the street round the corner from the church and just happened to park opposite G-reg traveller on a driveway, had to take a photo :P[frame]Image[/frame]

Thanks for the compliments :) Matt, i'm very pleased that you still complimented my paint job even after you've seen it in 'the flesh' :D Mike, It's well worth trying things yourself, i bought this car purely as a learning project for myself so it would have been pointless (and expensive!) getting e...

Re: 1961 2-door saloon (Sidney)

That's a very smart and tidy solution - well done. 8) Might smack your knuckles on the box when pulling the bonnet release, though. Thanks :) It sits far enough forward to avoid the bonnet release, I checked :P It also has a lid to avoid catching the wires, still with the shortbread label on it

Re: 1961 2-door saloon (Sidney)

The indicators are wired up correctly now. I fitted the relays and flashers in a box under the dashboard[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1374524573_6735 [/frame] this allows the flashers to flash alongside the trafficators on ignition, hazard flashers work on the live fuse without the traf...

Re: 1961 2-door saloon (Sidney)

I havent fitted the appropriate flasher unit and relays yet, I just got these working by joining the correct wires together! :D Eventually they will all work off the same switch, as you described :) When I bought the car the trafficators had been disabled so this is the first time I've seen them wor...

Re: 1961 2-door saloon (Sidney)

Today I finally managed to fit a battery and test my wiring loom. I'm really pleased :D[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1372891658_6735 [/frame] The headlights and 'hidden' indicators are great and clearer than I expected.[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1372891867_6735 [/frame] ...

My front windows don't shut

I've just fitted the frames and glass in the doors of my 2-door saloon, in both cases they seem to wind up fine but stop about an inch from the top, what have I done wrong?

Thanks
