Re: Manifold identification

Thanks, maybe that middle one was from a 1098 Midget, don't think the 998 found it's way into a Midget I guess.

Re: Manifold identification

Brilliant, thanks. Maybe the 998 was from a Mini - think I was recommended that it was the best option for a 948. :D

Manifold identification

Can anyone help me to identify these manifolds? I bought them ages ago when I was considering upgrading an 803 engined car to a larger 'A' series engine. I think the top one is 948? Middle could be 1098? Bottom - 1275? Cheers, Roger[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1466079591_6748 [/frame]

948 Engine / 1098 gearbox - what clutch kit???

I'm about to swap out my gearbox and I would think it prudent to replace the clutch at the same time. I have a 948 engine and a 1098 gearbox fitted. My question is - should I fit a new 1098 clutch kit or a 948 one?????????????? :o :o :o

Jumps out of second

I need to fix a gearbox that jumps out of second gear on deceleration. Does anyone know the name of the part that causes this? Thanks.

Also, anyone got an old 1098 gearbox for sale that I could recondition, and then swap out over a weekend?

Re: Gearbox trouble

The gearbox rebuild manual was my invention. As said its only going to get worse and increasingly more expensive to sort the longer its left. Whatever is up with it its going to have to come out to be looked at and find the problem, could be worn bearings, worn dog teeth / synchro or a combination ...

Re: Gearbox trouble

Thanks, that does sound encouraging. I'm not new to gearbox removal, have done it to loads of classic cars over the years - just never attempted a gearbox rebuild before. Looking forward to the challenge! :D

Gearbox trouble

My daughters 1960 948 is experiencing some gearbox bother. The GB is actually ribbed cased - so I'm assuming it is a 1098 box. We have 2 problems, Number 1 - jumps out of 2nd gear on de-acceleration. Number 2 - we started hearing some grounching noises from around the gearbox area at speed, and as t...

Re: Primer then filler or other way round

Lead loading is dead easy................on a horizontal surface!Anything else make sure you have something on the floor to collect what runs off to re-use if you're doing it on a vertical panel.Use solder paste to tin it first.Very satisfying though when you get it right.I used it a lot on my RM R...

Re: Primer then filler or other way round

As above, if you prime first ,the filler can not bind to the metel, the idea being that you grind /sand the bare metal to provide a rough surface to apply the filler(As per manufactures rec.). However you must get rid of all the rust by grinding. If you apply primer or any coating to the metal. The...

Primer then filler or other way round

I have a few rust holes in front valance. I've Mig'd in some backing metal behind the holes and I'm about to apply a thin coat of filler. Question is should I prime first then fill - or fill first then prime?
