I have been looking for a 12g940 for ages, I found one on ebay local to me its off a 1275 metro without the bypass hose spigot. The price is £40 for a bare head no valves or springs. I think its a bit pricey so I will have to carry on looking. I am a bit puzzled about the by pass hose I know either ...

It's depressing when it starts going dark so early, in fact some days there is very little light. As I made my way back from the garage at 5.15pm I thought back in the summer I would be having a quick 30 minute break then back out until 10 pm. Roll on Spring

When you had the head swopped by your mate ask him if he checked the wear lip on the bores. I doubt many mechanics don't do this as a matter of course. It seems mighty strange that this problem has only come evident after the head job. If the engine is ok otherwise I would do so more checking before...

Last year went by train to the NEC, very good going there but on the way back had to wait over 1 hour for a bus at Crewe due to work on the lines. I believe the work isn't finished so I will give it a miss this year.

blown gasket

I\\\'m having a look at a 1098 minor with a blown head gasket tomorrow. The head is not the original one but is a 202. If I have it skimmed is there an optimum size I can go down to. I suspect it may have been skimmed before.

A proper cylinder hone isn't a lot of money and does a good job, I have bought piston rings and complete pistons and rings recently neither had stepped rings. If I had a choice of doingthe job having taken the engine out or lying on my back doing it in situ, I would take the engine out.

might I humbly suggest that you check the condition of the teeth on the reverse and first gears, they have a hard life, some of those chips may be off them

I have just cured the exact fault on a Minor fresh from extensive welding and with new springs. The web was too deep and the spring was rubbing on it, especially on speed humps. We just lowered the spring a little and ground a half moon clearance in the web, then re fitted the spring

quality of re con dampers.

Has anyone any experience of sub standard re con units. On another forum a member has had one come apart not long after it was fitted. Apparently there is a quality issue (again) with new dampers and some suppliers are advising against fitting them, but if re con ones are also sub standard where next.

grease in shock absorber

A couple of days ago I took my minor for an MOT, the tester who was very friendly asked me if I had replaced the oil in the shockers with grease. I was puzzled as I had never heard of this before. I had topped them up with an oil recommended by Morris oils, which is motorcycle fork oil. By the way m...

Had the same problem alex, there are at least 2 different length rods, the one off my 948cc box was longer than a 1098cc one.

Result one rebuilt engine, rebore, the lot. How the ell it ran so well in the condition it was is amazing. By the way, I use e...

I couldn't get any oil in through this opening either, after replacing a gaitor, so I squirted it in by slipping my oil can spout inside the gaitor at the wide end. You will have to remove the clip first, and probably replace it with new.
