Re: Differential whine
Many thanks as always for your kind advice. If I were to go in and adjust, what seals and gaskets will be required to close it back up?

Re: Differential whine
Okay. I replaced the diff fluid with fresh quality 75-90 wt and added a little over half cup of STP Oil Treatment. No change at all in the whine whatsoever. Comes on at about 50 mph and actually seems louder now, but always only on acceleration. Quiet in deceleration. Is there a chance that the diff...

Re: Differential whine
STP makes a zillion additives and nothing I saw in my local auto parts store was close to being this kind of additive. Performance is not an issue (I have a 2 bbl Doge Dart carb on the 1400 Nissan motor that sucks the gas like no one's business), but high temps could be. Fuel is half the price (even...

Re: Differential whine
Here's what I'm think of doing. I picked up some Royal Purple 75-140 gear oil. Diff questions from many US forums point to this as being a top brand (Redline is another-the Lambo people love this), and the heavier viscosity should work well in my climate. Worth a shot. Doing this next Saturday and w...

Re: Differential whine
Thanks! A quick look at the manual tells me that because I need to go inside, and replace seals, etc, anyway just to inspect and reassemble, might as well try and do it properly when it gets bad enough. I will try the STP. This seems to have happened SINCE I did the differential fluid change, so I m...

Re: Differential whine
Thanks very much for the reply. You might remember me as being the one who had the "sealed" diff- no fill plug, only the breather valve higher up. At that time I had questions about the fluid level. Ended up making a little "dip stick" to gauge when the fluid level was around 1/3...

Differential whine
I'm starting to get a good whine at about 50mph from the rear end. Only when accelerating. What parts do I need to go about replacing? Being here in the US, looking for the easiest solution as finding a replacement diff will not be easy. Everything's in the uk, but shipping is an issue. TIA

Re: US LHD version: sealed beam headlights to PL700s
Got pair of PL700s and put them on my '61 today. Great difference in light quality from the old US sealed beams and the vintage tripod look is super! BTW, due to camera exposure, the small lights appear orange when they are actually white. http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j284/mrsnak/Morris/PL700-1...

They do, but <<ouch>> at such a cost for LHD for us US folk and the terrible exchange rate these days.twincamman wrote:Try http://www.ratsport.co.uk
They do repro tripod lights with halogen bulbs.

Re: US LHD version: sealed beam headlights to PL700s
Going with the tripod PL700s for the "cool factor", and have a pair incoming that are supposed to be made in UK. I know that knockoffs exist, so I'll be critical when they arrive.
Thanks to this group as usual.

Re: US LHD version: sealed beam headlights to PL700s
Moss Motors sells them here in the US, and yes, they seem more for show. I was attracted to the vintage look. Those Wipacs are more expensive here (almost twice the price), but appear to be much better lighting.

Re: US LHD version: sealed beam headlights to PL700s
This seems to be a forum favorite. Any reason for this over the PL700s? Those PL700s look so darn cool...mike.perry wrote:Fit a pair of Wipac Quadoptic halogens.

Re: US LHD version: sealed beam headlights to PL700s
Thanks all, it's my 1961 made for export truck to the U.S.
Wanted to "dress it up a bit", and it wouldn't hurt to have a bit brighter lighting.
The current bulbs are the standard issue U.S. non-halogen sealed beams

US LHD version: sealed beam headlights to PL700s
Thinking of swapping out my old US DOT LHD spec sealed beam headlights for a pair of PL700s. Not sure what the wattage is on my current bulbs, but these new ones would be 60/55 watt. My current wiring is original, but sturdy. Do I need to do a wiring modification kit to handle the new lights?

Just a wild card to throw out - The wheels from a 70s Chevrolet Vega allegedly fit the Morris perfectly.

Re: interesting engine conversion?
Just noticed that odd radiator setup. I can see this being done if the motor were too long to fit. Assuming that if it was channelled properly, it could work. This had to have been tested. More curious about it only having UK plates. Was the conversion done in the UK with the Euro "Pinto" ...
