Yep that's the one. I can relate to the comment about the TA gearbox, I drove a T A once and remember it as having the worst gearbox I have ever experienced. There may have been some synchros in there some where but I never managed to find them!

Re: Magneto spanners
Some years ago there was a Minor for sale in Melbourne Australia which had been fitted in period with a Climax engine and MG TC gearbox. I last saw it on a hoist at the Morris Minor Company. From memory there were some axle tramp issue's....

Re: Alternator conversion
Some years ago ,at a historic race meeting at Winton in NE Victoria ,a very tight and twisty circuit, I watched a Minor consistently out brake a gaggle of minis. I spoke to the driver after the race, who told me he was running standard Morry drums as that was all the regs allowed. Go figure, me? I h...

Re: 1960 Convertible "Maurice The Morris"
Thanks Chris. Believe me I understand tight budgets! And those are certainly attractively priced. The surround plate is not an issue for me ,your installation around the stick looks fine and removes the irritating process of locating screw holes through the carpet. All I need now is the permission o...

Re: get you home bodges
Those interested in this topic should check out a TV series called Bush Mechanics . You can find it on YouTube and demonstrates such useful skills as converting a screen washer into a fuel pump, and hand carving a clutch throwout bearing out of hardwood, to name just 2 of many.

Re: Jumping out of gear
Thanks NAT. That is one of the suspect's,but the box has to come out to check. Ithink I can get the rods and forks out without a complete dismantlement,so that is early on the list. Still looking for somewhere to do the work. Ido have a brother in law with a fully equipped workshop and mechanical sk...

Re: Jumping out of gear
High time I reported back. I removed the gear stick and found not the nylon cup I expected but a metal cup under which was a metal spring which was broken with the broken off part lying horizontally on top of the remains of the spring in a T formation. I experimented by fitting the nylon cup and new...

Re: Jumping out of gear
Phil. While I am perfectly willing To accept that my fading eyesight and cognitive power may have caused me to miss the number I'm sure the Sprite man would have known where to look and he couldn't find it either..... Richard.Well it's got ribs...... I have now got the plastic cup and spring. I have...

Re: Jumping out of gear
Thankyou Richard. The box is in the car, however before installing it Is checked the input shaft for a number but could not find one .Thinking I must be getting dementia I the box to a Sprite specialist. he confirmed the lack of a number but doubted it was from a Sprite/midget. He suggested it may be...

Re: Jumping out of gear
Thanks Phil. After looking at the Moss diagram I am pretty sure I don't have the Nylon cup or spring.haven't had time to look today but will do so Asap. In the meantime I have organised a second-hand cup and spring from a local sprite specialist . Fingers crossed and I'll report back

Re: Jumping out of gear
Thankyou all for your replies. A few things to think about, I have previously dismantled and remantled a 948 box so I'm not too worried about that, except that I live in a retirement village and have no workshop space or even a bench. Also once I have it apart I would need someone knowledgeable to lo...

Jumping out of gear
I have what I believe is a 1098 rib case gearbox behind a 948 engine. It has started to jump out of 3rd both when accelerating and on the overrun. I have no idea what causes this, can anyone offer any suggestions as to the reason? The only solution I have been offered so far is a complete rebuild fo...

Re: Gearbox woes
Thanks Neil and Richard. As I said in my post that spring which I perhaps wrongly called the 'clutch arm spring' is all present and correct. What I was asking about is the additional spring1G5999 mentioned by Phil the Hill and shown as item 40 on the link he posted. It may possibly be the brake peda...

Re: Gearbox woes
With reference to the very helpful moss diagram posted by Phil the Hill where does the pedal return spring, item 40 attach ? It seems to be missing from my 1960 car. The clutch arm spring, item 77 is in place, but isn't strong enough to pull the pedal up against the floor. Cheers John G

Re: gearbox
I did this to my 1960.didnt change the back plate or flywheel/clutch just bolted it up and so far it works fine. I am told there may be an issue with the longer input shaft which can foul on the bottom of the crankshaft hole but so far this is not an issue and I don’t see why the shaft could not jus...
