Re: Overdrive -- is it possible?

This subject is covered I the Morris Minor modification manual by Owen Burton . I think I got my copy from ESM. Short answer is possible but difficult, i.e.. certainly beyond me! Although he doesn't mention any need to modify the floor

Bonnet catch

G'day all from Australia Tried to open the Bonnet today with no result .It seems the operating rod has become detached from the opening mechanism. Easy to fix but of course the bonnet needs to be open to do it. So here's hoping one of the clever people on here knows a way to release the catch.Cheers...

Crankshaft pulley nut size

I am about to embark on fitting a new timing chain to my 948 and in preparation have been reading every thing I can get my hands on from which I have gleaned to that the the thing most likely to present a problem is the crankshaft pulley nut. I propose to use a rattle gun to loosen it but will need ...

Interesting Phil. Does this mean that the old oilbaths are less restrictive than paper element filters ?

Re: Vibration noises - where are they?

Nikol Had a very similar noise in my 948 2 door. Turned out to be the link between the door lock and interior door handle rubbing on the door panel. I think there used to be a rubber pad, long since gone! I fixed mine, I hope, with a short piece of fuel hose with a slit to go over the link. So far i...

Re: Claiming on insurance for damage caused by garage

You may not be able to see it but that is probably because you haven't looked at the policy document. Insurance exists to protect the policy holder against ,civil disutes straight or otherwise. Most policies cover damage however caused accidental ,wilful, negligent criminal etc. The OP should contact...

Re: Horn earth wire.

Much better thanks Don. However a search through various small boxes has yielded all the bits for the horn push except the small circlip at the end of the wire. I confidently expect to have a working horn by the end of today.

Re: Horn earth wire.

Yes there are other suppliers, but I Am on the other side of the planet andI I use ESM for their extraordinarily quick responses and utter reliability. I've found in general if they don't have it no one else does. That being said at 120 or 60 quid I'll find a way around it. Cheers JohnG

Re: Brake Drum Identification

Possibly Datsun 240Z rear drum. some years ago I got a U/S one from a wrecker to experiment with . The wrecker said he mainly sold them to Triumph owners. I redrilled the stud holes and enlarged the centre hole but in the end it wasn't quite deep enoughfor the Morris / Wolseley brakes and the inner ...

Re: Noisy engine & lack of power at speed

I had a similar, but not exactly the same problem recently alright on the flat but wouldn’t pull uphill . Turned out to be binding brakes. You can check by stopping when the symptoms occur and feeling the wheels in the area of the brake drums . If one is hotter that will be the problem one, would al...

Re: Disc brake and suspension question

David. I would question if the Flexi hose fitted is long enough to allow for steering movement.looks like whoever fitted the brake conversion used the original drum brake hose, and then had to use the pipe arrangement as a workaround . I think I would be getting a new longer hose. The clamp seems to...

Re: Midget 1275 gearlever

Regards PTDs earlier post in this thread I asked mini mania which thrust bearing to use . Their reply is as follows 'You'll always use the release bearing for the clutch package you have so it would be the 948 type. You may also want to use the earlier type fork from the smooth case box in case the ...

Re: Marina disc brake conversion bearings

Thanks Phil, I have emailed Esm as I am too tight to make an international call and besides I would have to be awake in the early hours which is too hard these days. Unusually I haven't had a reply, the virus no doubt. Frustratingly I have located a wrecked Marina also most unusual in these parts bu...

Its sole purpose, for which it is brilliantly designed ,is to get in the way and annoy you when working on the door interior .it is best fitted in the box where you keep one day parts ,that is parts you are going to replace one day when you can remember where they go.......

For the first time, I think, I am confused by a PTH post.if a marina hub and stub are both used would not the Marina seal fit without a spacer? I suspect this is a really stupid question but I would really like to know against the day when I do something similar . Cheers JohnG

Also I find it easier to cut from the centre out. Put the knife point exactly in the centre and push gently. Don't go too far although the handle flange will cover a multitude of errors. Now my new carpet does not fit properly around the dip switch and needs trimming.anybody got a pet way of doing t...

Back in the day when both I and your Morris were young and all cars had drums it was certainly known for drums to go out of true and acommon cause of brake judder. If it was me I would take the drums to a brake specialist, get them checked ,and if necessary, and if they have enough meat, get them sk...
