Re: Electrics

I suspect the op was referring to the warning lights- not the side/headlights when he said
' no electrics or lights '. My money would be on poor battery connection.

Good advice MOJ and JJ , I will be careful with the adjustment, no danger of anything dropping off into the works then ?

Dizzy work

Time to think about replacing c.b. points and condenser, thinking this would be easier on the workbench,
are there any pitfalls to watch out for when removing the unit or just unbolt and pull out ?

Re: Parcel shelf renovation

Job done! I went the traditional route, ESM/NC parcel shelf and re-covered the original rubber crash pad with black fabric from Woolies which was excellent, fixed with Hobbycraft spray adhesive. Took the opportunity while the bar bolts were out to spray anti-rust fluid into the A post area. Working ...

Re: Parcel shelf renovation

Thanks, yes I think I might re-cover the old vinyl rather than try and remove it as the 'rubber' padding seems ok.
Plenty of stuff available but need to see it first, will try Dunelm .

Parcel shelf renovation

Just getting round to replacing my sagging front parcel shelf, new one arriving, am planning to rivet it to the metal rail but the rail covering is a bit scruffy, I would like to tidy it up but the 'kit' from NC is a bit pricey at over £40 for what seems to be just a length of foam rubber and a stri...

Re: 55 year old car next to a 1,000 year old church

Nice pictures of your car at the church with Devils Dyke and the South Downs in background. We live nearby and often do our 'Seniors midweek ' run in this glorious part of Sussex. In these troubled times we are truly thankful that we are able to get out in our Minor and enjoy the wonderful English c...

Re: footman james

I have been with RH for many years and don't plan to change, But ; I am a bit peeved that they insist on adding services that i don't need or want. Breakdown - I already pay RAC a vast sum for ' arrival ' which covers the Minor, Foreign travel ! I rarely venture outside Sussex and don't have a passp...

Re: insurance companies

Coupe is a term used in America for 2 door cars I think, I have been happy with RH insurance, my only beef is that they insist on including things I dont need like breakdown cover ( I already have 'arrival' with RAC ) which covers everything I need , and foreign travel ( I dont have a passport !) I ...

Re: Do-it-all coolant/antifreeze. Any good?

If it seems to be too good to be true ----------
Seriously I would be guided by it's colour, if it is red , pink or orange I wouldn't put in a Minor,
General advice it to use Bluecol or Blue star 50/50 mix with de-ionised water. Cheap enough
at motor factors, change it after 2 years.

Re: Anti freeze

Tried Southern water authority who say ' your local council will have arrangements for disposing of chemicals'. Response from council - take it to the HWRS - that will be the local tip that gave me bad advice in the first place ( geoberni was right !) No septic tank here so probably could dilute and...

Anti freeze

Replaced my 2 year blue A/F and took the old stuff to the local re-cycling centre, shocked at the advice given by operatives which varied from - 'pour it into the waste oil tank' to 'chuck it into the general waste skip' !! Not thinking either of these to be a good idea I took it back home. -- any i...

Re: Prop shaft

Yes, the front of the propshaft is on splines so it can be moved back and forth, I would mark the shaft
and flange so that it goes back the same way, (don't forget to drain the gearbox oil first !) good luck.

Re: Dynamo Dilemma

Thanks to all, yes, I am concerned about the reputation of some re-pro parts and have decided not to go down that route. I don't think I could manage DIY but am looking for a local place that would do it (thanks for the parts link Richard ) Other than that a reconditioned exchange unit from Speedy s...
