How easy to remove Traveller rear aluminium panels

Hi, I am trying to refinish my wood and have been using Acetone to strip the acrylic finish off. But I am horrified to see that the Acetone is also softening the paintwork and my wood stripping is causing abrasion to the softened painted aluminium panels. Are these easy to remove? Or is this a job t...

Re: fitting a brake light switch

I have had exactly the same issue. The switch, now replaced three times including a Lucas branded part. Starts off OK, is sensitive to slight pressure, then over the following 12 months developed a greater and greater insensitivity until you are literally standing on the pedal to get the lights to w...

Thanks to Charlie in Watford

Exhaust manifold cracked completely at the exhaust flange while on the A1 6 miles away from my son's home. Thanks to Charlie in Watford, who had a spare and was kind enough to sell it to me for a reasonable price, and he had the gaskets as well!

Charlie, you are a star!

Re: Help with breather hose query

Just to say thanks to all contributors, hose now in place. It was bending over and flatting itself but I found that a tie wrap held it in place for a nice smooth curve, and now the tie wrap's off it is holding this shape by itself. NB Exhaust manifold cracked completely at the exhaust flange while o...

Re: Help with breather hose query

Thanks everyone for your prompt and knowledgeable replies.

So I am modified eh?

What exactly is the effect this has on the carburettor? Is it a faster form of warming up? Does the fitting have to be very airtight?

Do I need to use it at all?

Thanks

Help with breather hose query

1963 1098 cc Traveller. I managed to break the now brittle rubber hose that fits between the rocker cover and the base of the carburettor. It seemed to be a funny sort of 'S' shape. But I cannot find it in any online parts listing. All seem to show a breather hose that goes from the rocker cover to ...

Re: Noisy Fuel Pump

I finally sourced a replacement pump, and a new union nut as mine was missing, and some rubber fuel pipe. Took off the offending pump only to find a split in the inlet pipe hidden from view, AND that I could replace it with new rubber fuel pipe! Did so and the pump is as quite as a mouse now. It jus...

Not my best shots, but you can see the right angled rubber piped connection. It looks all integrated to me.

Re: Noisy Fuel Pump

Well copper coloured, it is pukka brake pipe brought from a motor factors. Yes you are right about the fuel pipe being bigger, that's down to my crappy powers of observation - thanks I know a strip down holds for a SU pump, but am not familiar with the Mopar pattern part. It already has external dif...

Re: Noisy Fuel Pump

I have copper brake pipe, is that the same size?

And I have a flaring tool.

But I don't have the union fitting, would you know what it's specification is?

Thanks

Re: Noisy Fuel Pump

I am not sure if the Mopar pattern replacement is serviceable?

It does not have the correct union fittings for the fuel inlet, instead it uses a rubber hose and the previous owners have cut off the flared end to the copper fuel pipe.

Noisy Fuel Pump

I have also posted this in mechanical. My pump makes a lot of ticking noises, especially at idle. Less an occasional tick, more like Ginger Baker on a drum solo. Then a pause then off it goes again. The car works fine and is happy at all speeds. Fuel consumption seems OK, and no obvious leaks or pet...

Re: Soft brakes - Am I bleeding them correctly?

The servo was also at fault. It had a 5cm gash in the diaphragm. Replaced and now the brakes are back to their normal standard.

Thanks to everyone that posted replies.

Shuddering vibration from rear brakes

Why do I get a shuddering vibration from the rear upon forceful braking? Light braking seems OK. Brakes operate in a straight line. I seem to recall that new brake shoes should have their leading edge filed down with a bevel as they can otherwise snatch, but am not sure if my recall is correct. Can a...

Re: A Brake Servo problem? Engine stalls on braking.

It was the servo!

Upon inspection it had a 5cm gash in the large rubber diaphragm. Replaced and brake feel now as good as new. Can even lockup the wheels using forceful pedal pressure now.

A Brake Servo problem? Engine stalls on braking.

A brake servo problem? The engine falters, then stalls on braking. It's not the lights draining on the battery. I can hear a hiss from the servo when the brake pedal is depressed. The hiss is slight on a partially depressed pedal and louder on a fully depressed pedal like a 'sshh' and you can hear t...

Re: Soft brakes - Am I bleeding them correctly?

Hi Chaps, Thanks for your suggestions. It looks like a combination of new shoes and a little air in the system. Bled and bled again, including at the top of the servo, now much better, better still once shoes bedded in. Another problem? The engine falters, then stalls on braking. It's not the lights...

Soft brakes - Am I bleeding them correctly?

Our 1963 Moggie Traveller had the servo conversion to improve braking performance. I have just replaced the rear shoes, cylinders and drums and have bled the entire system. But still find excessive travel on the brake pedal, and a soft feeling. I suspect that air is in the master cylinder, but don't...

Re: Stalling and kangaroos! Help!

Thanks for the tips, Update. Went for two one hour trips up and down the A46 to Mansfield, a round trip of 80 miles. Was faultless. Had removed radiator muff, cleaned LT terminals on coil as looked a bit scruffy. Fuel pump delivering plenty of fuel, around 1 pint every 40 secs. Also tightened loose ...
