Thankfully yes it did, with flying colours. Although it had required a spot of welding by Chertsey Minors a few days before, however that was well within my annual £400 budget! As usual I had the advisory of 'a light misting of oil on the rear shock absorbers'. The same could be said of a large perc...

Tried what? If you wish to try to indemnify the MMOC against expensive legal action taken by a disgruntled trader by pledging a huge sum of your money to the club for legal expenses then perhaps the policy will change? If not, ask yourself why you would expect a group of people, running the club in...

I corner on the principle that if you have no acceleration then you avoid slowing down for corners.
 I drive on the principle of maintaining momentum whenever possible - my minor has flown past many fast cars driven by people with no anticipation!

Good quality second hand doors are usually the best option, no-one makes complete new doors to the best of my knowledge. Fibreglass doors would be a very bad step in terms of safety, you really do need solid steel to protect the occupants if t-boned. :-?

Only weld half an inch at a time, so the steel doesn't get too hot and result in distortion.
Good advice - also it only sets fire to small amounts of waxoil, so you have a fighting chance of blowing it out!

It's because you have the filter in the suction line that you are having the problem! If you really feel you want a filter - put it in the pressure line - after the pump! Of course if you do that it will always be clean, as any gunk will be caught by the filter in the pump. Having two filters is po...

I think the moderators should remove bad practice methods along with all the other offences! Can't see why we should if it isn't dangerous. One man's bad practice is another's time-saving trick, bending torsion bars is another one that comes to mind. As for the steering wheel nut what is it worth? ...

+ what do I do with the existing box sections that already have some internal corrossion (some with patches ect). Is there any point in spraying Waxoil into an already partially corroded section? I would say yes - but only once you've cleared away any the rust scales, dirt and peeling paint and hav...

Fibre fuel tank sounds dangerous! What happens in a rearend shunt ? The tank will be nipped - and almost certainly split open!! Agreed - a metal fuel tank would often suffer a dent but not split open- fibreglass is bound to crack when hit with any force. For ultimate safety you need kevlar lining, ...

I recall someone (years ago) used a Halfords metric socket purchased for a couple of quid with good effect on his steering wheel. I can't say what size for certain but 33mm sounds familiar. It might round the nut slightly but it would be much kinder than a chisel!

the 1098cc are only suposed to do 72mph
In the contemporary Autocar test reports its given as either 76 or 78mph, while 948s could reach 73mph. I can say I've driven at the 130 km/h speed limit in France (81mph) going downhill! 8)

The original poster in this thread - could of course just swap the springs over - left to right - and the 'good' spring will then be carrying the extra weight. Should be ok for another 10 years or so! I did consider doing this but you can guarantee the bolts will be solidly rusted. Fitting longer s...

Thanks for the offer BMC, I'll certainly let you know the next time I'm up at Bo'ness - I've many great memories of the line, including getting very drunk on real ale with the diesel cranks at the October 1997 gala and riding behind one of the 27s (001 or 005) up the hill in total darkness at 10pm. ...

Blimey! I never expected to see a railway crank thread on the MMOC board, even though I knew bmcecosse was a driver at the Bo'ness. :D - I had a very entertaining run with his steed Morayshire at the Llangollen a few months back, on the verandah of a LMS guards van. I've got lots of different...
