Re: RIP Betsy Blue

I'm not a vicar, irmscher - that's a particular job title in a particular denomination (Anglican). I'm a Methodist minister - specifically, a Superintendent Minister (Anglican equivalent - (roughly) Area/Rural Dean). However, that still means I'm busy on a Sunday! I take my "Sabbath" - as ...

Re: RIP Betsy Blue

I still live in Pembrokeshire for the moment (until August)! I live in a village called Rosemarket.... And looking at your signature pic, you live somewhere near Carew, and bought your car at the garage with the huge boat in the yard near Whitehill. I know, because I was looking at that car for abou...

RIP Betsy Blue

Since I bought my Morris in 2009, I have been buying bits and pieces - Riley and Wolseley 9" brakes, an engine, a leather interior from a Rover 200, tyres, that sort of thing - and saving money at the same time to pay for the restoration. During that time I have corresponded with some lovely, h...

Re: Naming your Minor

Mine is called Betsy Blue. she's a Trafalgar Blue saloon. The previous owner had this weird idea that saloons were male, whereas enny fule kno that saloons are female and Travellers are male - so "Bertie Blue" became "Betsy Blue". It was going to be Betty Blue until someone on he...

Re: How to Get a Double Bass into a Morris Minor

I once drove a whole fitted kitchen, including the sink and drainer, down from Chingford to Gillingham in a Hillman Imp. I took the passenger seat out, and opened the back window, of course: and I pushed the driver's seat as far forward as possible. I'm 6' 1", by the way... or at least I was wh...

Re: My mot man tells me.....

I see you are in Liskeard. I used to be the Methodist Minister in Liskeard - lived in the manse on the top of Bay Tree Hill next to the Methodist Church.... where is your MOT man? I'm asking because if it's who I think it might be, I might be able to put you in touch with the Morris Owner. I'd be su...

AA Badges

My mother-in-law died a couple of weeks ago, sadly. I have been clearing her bungalow, and have come across a couple of old AA car badges which must have been on my father-in-law's cars some time ago. I don't need help about the numbers - the AA website has shown me that the numbers stamped on the b...

Re: Improvisation!

Don't be silly. Grouting would attract oil and other dirt and look unsightly. SIlicone is the answer! Seriously.. of course it's a bodge job - but I have to get the car to the garage somehow, and it won't get there without a battery - I'd rather it were secured firmly, if temporarily, ready to be fi...

Re: Improvisation!

couldn't have just put a spacer under the nut? a bit of metal pipe? a lot of washers? just a thought  A good thought... but I don't have any of those things - that's why I used "found objects"! I'm no mechanic, not of any kind. I've never welded, didn't do metalwork at school, was ru...

Re: Improvisation!

Yeah, but the point is, there wasn't any thick rubber in my garage at the time!

Anyway, I'd be amazed if it rattled - everything is as tight as a duck's behind, and doesn't move at all!

Improvisation!

I've just had to buy a new battery for Betsy Blue. The last one was absolutely enormous, gigantically heavy, and filled the battery tray to such an extent that it was almost too big for the retaining strap's bolts. The new one is much smaller... so much smaller that the nuts on the retaining strap's...
