Re: Strange Pump arrangment....

Having recently refurbished two SU AZX1308 Fuel pumps from a 1967 Jaguar MK2 'S' type 3.4L with separate fuel tanks in the wings, I can confirm that the arrangements pictured do not relate to a Jaguar set up. The "twin" type SU ( top of picture ) AUF400 / AZX 1400 types were fitted to a nu...

Re: 1965 Four Door - sympathetic resto

" Welding Gas has run out " ... there's a trip down Memory lane. I soon graduated to big bottles for restoration. You can easily forget about the gas , you're on a roll , good solid, strong welds and then... all of a sudden they're rubbish.Did I knock the settings accidently, staring at th...

Hi Allan,
I'm a bit late to the post but have you stumbled across this useful diagram in your research from Moss Europe ?

https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/media/pdf/MMCAT2022.pdf
If you scroll down to Page 74 of the Catalogue you'll find a cross section of the whole Sill / floorpan area.

Or just remove the water pump

Plus Water Pump Gasket 88G215 , unless you're very lucky removing the pump temporally, leaving the gasket undamaged !

Re: Start of rear repair first timer

Disconnect battery ( and Alternator if applicable ) before welding. Take plenty of measurements before you start cutting out ,if you are doing patch repairs make a cardboard template and cut the metal sheet generously. You can always trim later. You must weld to clean and solid metal so spend time th...

Re: restoration of my minor convertible

The Lift a Dot studs come in a variety of fixings and heights. You need one that will accommodate two clips , at the same time. As mentioned by Stephen. eg https://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/p-978-lift-the-dot-fastener variety available, so know what to look for. Major Morris Minor suppliers stock them....

Re: SU Fuel Pump or Hardi replacement?

I endorse the " replacement " end cap theory. The material it's made of , doesn't lend itself to being dropped.( If your's get broken you pinch another from the pile of spares hanging around your garage to keep the car running.Isn't that right ? ) I've worked on numerous SU petrol pumps. L...

Re: Carburettor problems

Answer no , you're correct. I'd look carefully at the needle valve inlet. Needle itself first , is it worn ? Evidenced by wear in the cone shaped tip. Does it have a ridge that can seen and felt with a finger tip ? Is the needle " free" to rise and fall , not hindered by dirt / dust cloggi...

Re: Engine Cutting Out

Alex Have you ruled out the low tension lead on the Lucas Distributor (? don't know what you have on the car). The electrical lead covered in cotton fabric cannot be described as being robust , more like delicate. If it is original or a bit" long in the tooth " then the wire may be fraying...

Steve 1.It sounds as though it is your clutch thrust bearing that's getting towards it sell by date. Any idea how old the clutch set up is ? Any other symptoms , difficulty engaging gear. People usually change the clutch plate and Thrust bearing at the same time. The bits will usually wear out at ab...

Andy I believe you have arrived at the right conclusion from all that you have replaced and checked so far. With no signs life at all from the starter when trying the starter it points to issues. It could be that the brushes in the starter have come to the end of their useful life or something a lit...
