Re: poor quality parts update now happy

As people are very quick to name companies when they are disappointed, how about naming this one which provided something more positive?

Re: seat belts

Yes, Mr Newton, buy new - your moggie has not got airbags, crumple zones or much else to protect you if it comes to the crunch (sorry about that one.....) so at least buy some reliable belts!

Budgie's comment about the engine bay bears careful consideration - get the engine bay done at the same time if you are not painting the car the colour that lives under the bonnet!

Re: Replacement 'A - reg' plate.

My old 1965 convertible (now under new management) was taken back to the factory when it had done only about 6000 miles 'cos it had a terrible vibration. It was fitted with a replacement 1098 engine under warranty and that was an 8AUH prefix engine - not long after I bought it, someone queried this ...

Re: Advice please - locking fuel cap

I've got one exactly the same on my Van - and yes, you can see the screw heads but you can't get a screw-driver on them so in 18 years no-one has nicked my petrol! (That's trusting fate, isn't it)! Even if it DOES go down to a pound a litre thats still worth some protection! And while we are at it, ...

Re: Mot

Les - when you take it back with the new gaiters, take a 9/16 socket with you and if they still are not happy with the seat, tell 'em you'll shift it by taking out the securing bolts. If they still insist that, in their opinion it is un-adjustable, suggest that you would like a second opinion from V...

And if boomlander wants to paint his lens red, Humbrol do a "clear red" - it is number 1321 and it didn't eat my plastic lens unlike some other paints do!

If no-one comes up with the info you require, try contacting The Cooke Group at Leicester who are probably going to be on your contact list anyway - restorers, parts etc. West Ave, Wigston, Leicester LE18 2FB, 0116 288 1234, cookejohn@hotmail.com and a reputation for being helpful. I have no connect...

Re: Diesel air pollution

At my local soopastoreplace they are selling paraffin in 4-litre plastic containers and its more expensive than diesel - yet it's not subject to all the taxes on motor-fuel. £8.75, seeing as you ask. Fortunately I know a place where you can get it on draught at £1 a litre, but its 17 miles away. For...

Re: best rust converter.

Jenolite is basically phosphoric acid which converts the rust (ferric oxide) to ferric phosphate which does not eat the steel. I've been using it for donkey's years and swear by it (though I won't do that here cos the moderators don't allow swearing). Whatever you use needs a coat of good, preservat...

It is nice when old threads pop up out of nowhere after (in this case 2 1/2) years - thankyou Gina ! My other Moggie (1937 Morgan F-type three-wheeler) was supplied by Colmore Depot and still has an enamel plaque to that effect on the dashboard.

Re: Our 1st Moggy. 1956 Split Screen. WSL 230

The garage were making a 'meal' of the diff swap - the hshafts only need to be pulled a few inches - and ram a rag in to catch any oil drips.... That Xmember is certainly near end-of -life. It's not a pleasant job to change it. I suggest probably ~ £500 to do it - plus the new Xmember of course... ...
