I have the worse possible outcome of this problem, it now works perfectly so that frustrating fault has disapeared as quickly as it arrived.

Thanks one and all for your theories though.

Fuel pump

What causes the pump to work so erratically? It works fine then nothing, gentle tap and hey presto for a mile or so then same problem, then possibly good for the next week. Have cleaned filter and points etc what else can I do or is it the carb. It is off a 1300 metro.

Carrying on with this thread,. Now that we have in theory a Maestro engine that fits onto the backplate and flywheel etc, what gearbpx to couple it up to? With the 1275 lump, the original 1098 box will I'm sure expire and the Marina box is still a lumpy unforgiving box, what cheap Jap alternatives a...

The backplate fits the A+ block of the Maestro, unfortunatley the crank has 6 studs to fix the flywheel to, so unless people want the hassle of stripping and fitting a 1275 Midget/Marina crank thats the end of this story.

I have supplied my local tame auto machiner with back plate and fly wheel to try and mate up to a 1275 lump out of a maestro. I should be able to let every one know by tomorrow evening. Thing is, if the flywheel doesn't fit is it the end of the world? a VW flywheel clutch gearbox conversion isnt too...

Split two engine's and boxes today to make one good unit, trouble is although both are 1098 units the flywheels are different sizes, the clutches different sizes and of the coil spring type, whereas the new clutch that I purchased today from a motor factors is of the diaphram sort and will not fit i...

The only problem is applying Hammerite over primer, it should be applied to bare metal. I use Rust-oleum, it comes in many colours is quick drying and does not react with other paint (unlike Hammerite) The combi colour product is a rust proofer and high gloss finish in one, it is manufactured in the...

The person I bought my 1098 van from got rid of it because it wouldn't tow his horse box, with horse inside!

I would certainly want to uprate the brakes opn the traveller before thinking about the engine/drive train.

Cam is right, patch, patch and patch again, if you are cutting out to clean metal and not plating over, the pain will be reduced for many years.

You will be hard pushed to eradicate the black, water has got in and physically damaged the wood. Bleach will kill off some of the spores and whiten the timber, more importantly find out where the water is getting in and stop it, as black timbers will be the least of your problems.

Unfortunatley no, the striking plate on the door was worn through, and every bump forced the door to open onto the second latch. Anyway did not proceed as well as first thought this morning, the holding plate behind the door post would not give up the screws and it had to be ground off. the screws t...

I have to weld in today a new hinge post and drill out the hinges for an oversize pin so basically its all in bits at the moment. I intend to drill out the hinges and loose fit them before welding in th...
