Many thanks

..to Derbyshire Police, who protected our Minor with a traffic car and flashing lights last evening. The fuel pump failed on a busy, narrow, winding road at twilight and it was a pretty scary experience. The traffic Bobby waited with us until our friend arrived to recover us on his trailer, and then h...

Re: Salon rear seat back wing bolts

Mine were originally, but replaced with similar metric ones when restored. Unless you are into Concours it probably doesn’t matter.

Re: What's on your floor?

I think it’s down to the concrete mix that was originally used. Our garage floors were laid with a strong mix of cement and sharp sand. You can’t get a spot of dust off them.

Re: roll on indian summer

The last couple of years haven’t been too bad here in the Midlands. We’ve been able to eat outside more often than not. But this Autumn has been appalling,so wet!

They changed the name to Corsa, seems that in Spanish or Portuguese speaking nations ‘Nova’ means ‘Won’t go’.

Re: Starting Dad's old Minor

You only need choke when the engine is cold, Alice.
It wouldn’t be a bad idea to check the oil and water before you take her out for a run. Oh, and the tyre pressures too

Re: Starting Dad's old Minor

You’ve probably ‘flooded’ her. In other words, you’ve now got too much petrol because the choke has been pulled out for too long.
You will get a feel for the choke when you’ve used it a few times. Individual cars can vary a bit.

Re: Salt

I spent a lot of my life down ships and power station engine rooms and without salt or salt tablets you die!! Yes, as a student in the early ‘70’s I worked summer holidays in an iron foundry. A really hot place. We had big jars of salt tablets and a cold water drinking fountain. It was good money, ...

Way beyond my technical expertise, but from a driver’s point of view the Marina 1275 with a Ford type 9 gearbox results in a very capable and enjoyable car. :D

Salt

Well,it’s not good for old cars when they put it on the road.
But salted nuts just don’t taste right since the nanny state started cutting the salt down. Thank goodness that we can still add it. Salt and shake nuts, perfect with a nice cold beer. :D

Re: Treating rust

It’s the old problem, a balance between stuff that works and stuff that is ‘safe’ under current rules. Years ago I stripped down a 3 story Victorian staircase that had been stained in thick, old, original varnish. The sort that was made out of dead animals. Modern varnish strippers just turned it into...

Re: Gan Canny pet

We lived in Northumberland for many years. Back in the’70’s I used to visit a pub called the Ca’Canny near a village called Wideopen. Got talking to an ex miner who had taken redundancy rather than transfer to a midlands colliery...his pit at Havannah having closed a few months previously. He lament...
