Having done next to no miles this year I find regardless my Lancaster insurance policy has gone up 22.5%
has anyone else suffered such a vast increase?

Re: Rattling from Water Pump?

I would acquire a wooden handled screwdriver and listen at the handle end while touching the various areas suspected with the business end, while the engine is running of course.
The sound will be amplified when you find it.

Re: Brakes

"not to remove play" quite right, which is why I said "finger tight and back the nut off to the nearest hole for the split pin." As you know you cant measure the play accurately as you can only "hand tighten" and then back the nut of to the nearest hole for the split pin, although I am now in danger...

Re: Brakes

If a castle nut and split pin are evident then it is highly likely they are taper roller bearings and just need adjustment. Take out the split pin and remove the castle nut, if the bearings are in one piece then regrease and retighten, not too tight, the position of the castle nut is determined by w...

Re: the leak

Ah, I replaced the stat when I bought the car 7 years ago, it didnt occur to me that I should replace the housing at the same time, even though as a matter of course I replaced the water pump too as it and the radiator were old and very much tired out. Getting the stat cover free then was quite easy...

Re: the leak

Well yes and no, I use antifreeze but not in any measured way, remiss I know. It does always have antifreeze but I think its the original stat cap from 1965, I had to replace the water pump when I first got the car so for similar reasons should expect this. Anyway it was easy enough to replace with ...

Re: Dodgy power tools

Dont let age put you off either. The last few decades saw the Black and Decker range made in Spennymoor in co.Durham. The factory sadly is no more, production was moved to the Czech Republic, the quality of the tools made from the 70s onwards is very good, I have a late 70s hammer drill that refuses...

Re: Fuel overflow

Just a word of advice on those adjustable clips.
Jubilee are one of the better manufacturers, but that style of clip is never concentric, the best bet although it is not easily removed without destroying it and needing another clip, is a correctly sized double eared O clip, crimped on with pliers.

Re: Tyre advice needed

Funny how times change, I as a yoof, was always told to avoid Japanese bridgestone, because they use a harder compound and dont grip well, thats why they are so cheap. Now I visit my local tyre dealer and cant help but smile when he says, bridgestone are the second most expensive tyre available from...

He recognises that 45 miles per charge will need to be bettered but all credit to him.

Re: Why didn't the 1275 go into the Minor from 1966?

I wonder if the reason the 1275 engine was not fitted was nothing to do with mechanical parts, they could have been modified alright. The Minor had its place in the market, it has always been targeted at the market segment of family run around, solid, reliable, cute but not apart from Pat Moss,s ecce...

AA pre delivery inspection

I read with interest a locked post regarding an unhappy purchaser of a Morris minor, as I cant post there due to the lock I will advise here.
Prior to purchase get the AA to look at it, its not expensive, in fact its priceless.
