Re: Here we go again another coil.

I've been told the rule of thumb is green lucas label equals new, orange label equals new old stock, not had an orange label lucas but if I see one I will be sure to grab it. Roy makes a good point about ballasted and non ballasted coils, I think minis used both dependent on build date so it would b...

Re: Here we go again another coil.

Out of interest were you driving at high speeds? I've had 2 coils go because I've driven on motorways and the way it was secured, it must have vibrated or hit a resonance point and caused damage. I've had the current coil on mine attached to a stronger part of the engine bay, rather than on that li...

Re: Here we go again another coil.

Perhaps modern coils are just poor quality? Al When I spoke to one of the suppliers about one of their coils which had lasted 8 months on the car (12 months 2 weeks since purchase) he said at the price they were good value. Not if you have to buy a new one every year was my reply. He asked me to pa...

Here we go again another coil.

After a cold windy day at Weston Park the last thing I needed was a breakdown on the way home. So 20 miles from home an intermittent misfire soon became a full blown misfire, replaced the 18 month old coil with the spare and off I went. An unremarkable story apart from the fact this is the third coi...

Re: 1966 Morris Minor with genuine 2570 miles discovered

With current restoration costs it could be a good purchase assuming the reserve is realistic, but how do you value a one off and if you use it then its unique selling point is gone forever. A couple of years ago an Austin 1100 with around 250 miles on the clock was at a few local shows, by the end o...

Cars you feel may have questionable provenance.

If you see a vehicle advertised for sale which you feel may have questionable provenance please remember it is likely that the vendor is totally unaware of any issue. If you wish to contact a vendor with concerns could you at the same time ask them to contact the MMOC who will do all they can to ass...

Re: Radio aerial booster

I have a roof-mounted radio aerial on my Traveller which doesn't give very good reception on either AM or FM. Has anyone fitted an aerial booster and had much better reception or any other advice to enable better radio reception? Is this a recent development? Reason I ask is that in my part of the ...

Re: Was XBU911 ever found?

I recently reported a very suspect car to the police and dvla. The police said they would not investigate unless the dvla asked them to, the dvla replied saying they would not investigate further unless the police asked them to. I replied to both pointing out the problem with their respective replie...

Re: Was XBU911 ever found?

It hasn't been seen since, we do still keep an eye out for it around Manchester as well as cars that look like they could be it having gone through the usual ID change. There have been a couple of false alarms but sadly they have come to nothing so far.

Practical Classics Traveller.

Does anybody know if this is the famous Practical Classics restoration they had so much trouble with in the mid 90's? As I recall they welded a V shaped piece of metal into the floor.DVLA says that car was last on the road here in 94.

Re: Re-registering a 6 chr number plate?

Here's a complete car with 3/3 Reg number - it's says it is the 'original' yet non-tranferable - which can't be the case if it is the original.... Anyway - complete car for £550 - probably easier for her to change her name...... http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=62312 This can happen...

Re: Re-registering a 6 chr number plate?

If the plate is worth £3-4k to your wife then offer that for the car, then put the car in a classic car auction and any money back is a bonus. If they still won't move on price pay if your happy to and any money back at auction will get you back towards your £3-4k hopefully your wife gets what she ...
