Am I right in thinking that when you re-torque after the bedding-in period it's good practice to unscrew a quarter turn before torquing up to the specified figure?

Have to say that this experience closely resembles my own 'failure to proceed' experience of a year ago (documented elsewhere on the forum) where a breakdown man spent a great deal of time and effort doing what you describe above, eventually got the car running and followed me home, where it cut out...

It's probably reasonable to assume that most (virtually all?) Morris Minor drivers these days also drive more recent vehicles, all of which have servos fitted. As a consequence, our reactions are programmed to expect an immediate and reassuring effect at the first light pressure on the brake pedal, ...
