Re: Number plate recommendations?

Blimey, that is expensive. I'm glad I looked after my original ace peak plates. I wouldn't be replacing them at that price ! Crazy prices these days.

Re: Something for series 2 owners

Seems like a few people were keen on it to push it to that price ! I suppose the price reflects the good condition and rarity of the items, but it does seem a lot of money. I got a similar pack about two years ago for the later 1000 model, and although it didn't have all the paper work, it was quite...

Re: How Many Components?

I guess it all depends on what classifies as a component. If you break the engine, gearbox, suspension etc down into smaller components, the numbers soon add up. Throw in switches, badges, rubber grommets, handles, bulbs and such like, I don't think it would take too long to get to 1600. I suspect a...

Re: New member saying "Hello"

Hi Mike Good question, but I'm afraid I don't know ! I'm south of Scotland based, so local to where these cars were. I know of a lot of Morris's around here, many local cars, but I don't recall ever seeing a locally registered panda car or any cars in this number sequence. That said, it is entirely ...

Re: New member saying "Hello"

There is a 'Vanguards' model of a black & white Morris Minor Police car but this is listed as a 'Lothian & Peebles Constabulary car', rather than Lancashire. Vanguards base their models on the real thing / original colour schemes I believe. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.alldi...

Re: Number plate recommendations?

The plastic and aluminium digits for number plates are usually held in with serrated clips, usually like these https://ever-hardware.com/category/prod ... gallery]/1 You can get them in small quantities on eBay or I've found you can pick up bags of these at various auto jumbles.

Re: Number plate recommendations?

I know ace peak plates are expensive and some of the styles are a bit more expensive than others, but £570 sounds a bit much ! You can buy the individual letters on eBay for about £10 ish each as a guide. I note from their website that they say sets of plates start at 199 euros (start at...) so mayb...

Re: Number plate recommendations?

My 65 4 door still wears its original ace peak plates. Nicely weathered and they just look right on the car. I see many nicely restored classics that are let down by really cheap poor quality pressed aluminium plates. Buy the best plates you can, you won't regret it.

Re: Number plate recommendations?

Hi Emleyj As already mentioned, Jepsons plate are really good quality and look great on the car. If you wanted raised digits rather than pressed aluminium, I would suggest Ace Peak plates. These were original fitment and are still made in Ireland. If you google ace peak, they will come up. Another g...

Re: Engine vin plates

I'd have to agree with Chris. My personal preference would be to retain the original plates and their wear and tear ('patina' they call it these days....) New shiny plates always seem to look a little out of place. All down to individual preference though.

The car is looking good David. It has come together well and really shows all the work you've put in. Shame we won't see it see this year, but will look forward to seeing it at Kelmarsh in 2021.

Re: Split-screen chrome surround on eBay??

The photos have come through successfully this time Firedrake.

They look fantastic once they have been chromed and fitted to the car. A fine piece of workmanship. The time spent hand fettling them has been worth it.

Re: Split-screen chrome surround on eBay??

Fantastic work Firedrake. I had a look at the photos on the Uttlesford FB page and they look great when fitted up on a car. A real testament to the workmanship and perseverance of Ray !

Keen to see what the two samples you have chromed locally turn out like.

Keep up the good work.

I'll second that. Thanks to whoever did what to get things up and running again.

At first I just thought it was just an issue with my iPad, but after trying and failing with both my phone and laptop too, I guessed it was something bigger.

Nice to be back !

Re: Too good to use on the road...

As folks say, some people are daft enough to pay these prices, but it has unintended consequences for everyone else. This just raises the baseline price (or the expected price - for some sellers !) of other Morris's. Even if this sells with a bit of discount, all of a sudden folks think a good four ...

Re: Crossply to radials - What size? (1954 4 door splitscreen)

I've just purchased and fitted some 155 x 14 Toyo's from ESM (I think they are old bull motif stock) and they look pretty good on the car - can't really get much of a test drive just now.... Just under £49 ea delivered if bought via eBay rather than their website, so pretty good value too.

Re: boot boards

I'd have to agree with John and Mike. I have never seen anything other than black boards.
I have a very original 52 sidevalve tourer that has been untouched since the late sixties and it has got black boards and I'm pretty sure they have never touched or repainted.
