Re: Morris minor friendly MOT garage- Nottingham area

Can I ask why would you need a classic friendly MOT station? Surely all MOT stations will test the car the same be it a three year old or 53 years old with allowances for its age with regard to emissions etc. I have had a variety of classics and always used the same MOT station I had my modern teste...

£70:00 a time would be a nice little earner....

John ;-)

Not enough resources.
I wouldn't be too sure, parking offences now fall under the Local Authority and if they think they can make money they will.

Re: Pavement Parking

Parking on the pavement does indeed cause issues with pedestrians having to enter the carriageway, no room for pushchairs etc but on the road where I live the council decided to introduce a bus route, to save people having to walk 200 yards to the main road. A couple of my neighbours own vans and th...

Re: lost my motivation

Thanks for the encouraging words. I will not be the person to sell an unfinished project, it would break my heart to see my "Gracie" being taken away. So I have decided to turn my attention to other things for a few weeks and that will hopefully spur me on. I will still be using the forum, just not ...

Re: 'Smart' motorways

Staying off topic, I must admit since the lockdown began my local community has come together rather more than in the past, so much so that we have set up a neighbour watch/contact list and now have regular contact with all the neighbours rather than just the local few. I tend to talk to everyone, b...

Re: lost my motivation

Well my wife and I are obviously feeling the same and we have booked a holiday for a few days just to get away from it all.
Thanks for the comments, although I love working on the Minor, I think the lockdown is taking its toll.

I will hopefully return full of spirit to crack on with it.

Thanks.

Re: Surging when on the flat

I would start with the RED spring http://sucarb.co.uk/piston-spring-red-10952.html as fitted as standard on the 1275cc Metro when fitted with the HIF44 SU carb. You could try the Metro turbo spring YELLOW Pt No: AUD4398.http://sucarb.co.uk/piston-spring-yellow-10967.html Here is the list of damper ...

Re: 'Smart' motorways

I appreciate this is an old discussion but having just come across it I have a few words on the subject........ Dermot. All very true Dermot, but the question is, why are people so ignorant of how to use a Motorway? I passed my test in 1975, and quickly learnt how to drive on Motorways, always keep...

lost my motivation

As some of you will know I'm currently in the process of a marathon welding session on my 1965 Minor and to break the monotony of constant grinding, cutting and welding I have recently been rebuilding a gearbox. I will be honest I struggled with the gearbox and now its all back together I cannot sel...

Re: 'Smart' motorways

I appreciate this is an old discussion but having just come across it I have a few words on the subject. In the UK we have motorways, the majority are three lanes wide. We have millions of vehicles on the road at any given time, I would say the vast majority of those vehicles at this moment in time ...

Re: Surging when on the flat

Never had or experienced any problems with 20/50 engine oil in the SU dash pot. It was all we ever used when I worked in the BMC garage. I have tried various grades of oil in the SU dash pot to control the rise of the piston including EP 90. The rise of the damper piston is also controlled by the s...

Re: Gearbox Layshaft Problems

I noticed the same term "correct length" when I was looking for a layshaft for my gearbox and managed to obtain a NOS shaft from ESM and the dimensions as you would expect were perfect. The Ebay items are obviously cheap for a reason. I suppose the old saying "you get what you pay for" ring true the...

Re: Surging when on the flat

What a coincidence, I happened to be in the garage last night looking at a HIF44 I found under the bench, I noticed the piston was moving without any resistance, The dashpot was empty so I topped it up with my bench oil can containing 20/50 and the piston almost became solid. I then cleaned the oil ...

Re: Preferred Radio location on 1970 Minor

My 1965 Minor had a really badly butchered hole on the rear shelf where someone had obviously had a speaker, although there were speaker wires for two speakers. As for radio location I have seen some very nice set ups where the radio is installed in the glove compartment using a modern system but ou...

Re: 1275 mg gearbox fitment

Although they look the same there are differences. The midget box is designed to use a hydraulic clutch mechanism, the clutch is different as is the flywheel. Are you sure you have a 1275 gearbox? The midget 1275 gearbox will have 22G229 stamped on the input or first motion shaft. Does the box have ...

Re: Cooper S steel timing gears.

Phil
Can I ask what advantage these items have over say a set of "ordinary" duplex set up from the usual suppliers/engine builders?

This is a genuine question rather than criticism.

Dermot.
