Re: Save a Moggy? Can a newcomer do it

I'm in a similar position my minor requires some bodywork and having welded a few bits of steel together in the past and managed to make a wood burner I thought I would try it myself. I think the main thing with welding at home is to obtain a good deal on argon. I'm still looking for a decent suppli...

Re: Little Nostalgia Trip

OJO 206 is still showing as taxed but with no MOT history and not currently insured.
It could still be out there some where.

Re: Axle tramp

Try placing a mobile phone camera under the car with the light on, then with the engine running release the clutch and see if anything is amiss. Try this for each of the major components such as axle, leaf springs, diff, and both ends of the propshaft. You mention in your original post there are issu...

Re: Mechanic in Derby?

Have you had welding carried out on the drivers side?

Try taking careful measurements from the passenger side and see how it compares to the drivers side.

If that doesn't show up any differences then try fitting the old door seal and see if that improves matters.

Re: Axle tramp

Worn Universal Joints will "clang" on taking up drive (letting the clutch out). Mine did it turned out to be the UJ's on the propshaft. Axle tramp can best be described in the chase sequence in the movie Bullitt, Mr McQueen overshot a junction and put his 1967/8 Mustang into reverse and dropped the ...

Re: Spotted today.

Just spotted a Trafalgar Blue 4 Door on the back on a spec lift tow truck/pickup turning off Chester Road onto Seymour Grove Manchester,
I think the first digits were BOO or DOO.
Looked to be in great condition.
Does it belong to anyone on here?

Re: Doris cuts out

I went to visit Doris yesterday and I can confirm she was running very rich indeed, the timing was out by quite a margin as well. I did notice the distributor was 180 degrees out, but the leads were in the correct order so rather than take the dizzy out again I left it where it was as it wont cause ...

FBF 161C 1965 Dove Grey 2 door saloon

Hi As I mentioned the previous owner in one of my comments about my car, I wondered if anyone knows or knew of my car in its previous life. I got hold of the car from a chap in Castleford West Yorkshire, but the registration number would suggest it was originally registered in Lincolnshire. If anyon...

Re: Registration numbers in Film/TV

A friend of mine owned the Austin Big 7 used in the 1970's movie "It shouldn't happen to a vet". When I was looking for a classic car he offered me the Austin 7 for £6000 or £4000 without the registration number. I had to really argue the case the number shouldn't be separated from the vehicle, afte...

For £25k you could have 2 very decent Morris Minors and a very nice garage to put them in.

Re: long distance driving

The strip down has begun, the interior has been secreted in the spare back bedroom and amazingly my wife has not batted an eyelid. The fuel tank has been drained and removed I have labelled all the wiring and the harness is ready to be removed once the across dash terminals have been identified. The...

Re: Gearbox prices

I think it's simply supply and demand. All major parts will become expensive it's a matter of fact, the less parts there are the more money sellers can demand (and get). To play devil's advocate why would someone sell a gearbox for say £100 when the next advert has one for twice that price, if you a...

Re: Wiring harness/Loom check

Autosparks will recover/re-braid your harness using exactly the same colours as the original. Not cheap, but not silly either, and they will cover whatever you send them, so any additions, modifications can all be incorporated and look like they were there all along. Excellent service the 2 times I...

Re: Wiring harness/Loom check

Indeed, I had to remove the heater hose from the engine bay and noticed where the loom runs behind the bracket on the inner wing had not only rubbed through the outer wrapping but had begun to actually work its way through the wires themselves. These wires are normally out of sight. I suppose given ...

Wiring harness/Loom check

Good evening My 1965 2 door Minor "Gracie" is off the road for some much needed body repair work. Tonight I decided to remove the wiring harness to evaluate its condition and generally check it was ok prior to beginning any welding. Well pardon the pun but I was shocked how bad the harness was,it ha...
