I cannot be certain what the various county forces fitted their cars with but The Metropolitan police started using Morris minors in 1968 with F suffix registrations. The very first Minors to be used by the Police were used by the Lancashire constabulary. They were Black and White hence the name Panda and the name stuck even though the later ones were Blue and White.

It's a genuine 1968 Ex Metropolitan police panda. It's the actual car that I drove brand new out of Surbiton police station in April 1968 as a serving police officer. I have a certificate of a factory record from The British Motor industry Heritage trust giving the build date as 23rd to 29th January...

Isn't it wonderful that we can criticise and castigate our police force without fear of retribution unlike some other countries, and thank goodness for bent coppers without whom we would not have half the television dramas.
