Re: Edd's 1969 2 door. UHU62H

ok, so the fact that if I tighten nut B all the way up with the spring on and the jet in the clunk stops isn't a bad thing. Am I correct?

Just checking I've done it all ok, like I said, I couldn't undo nut A to adjust it. I just moved nut B up and down.

Thanks

Ok, I finally found good instructions online!! I DO need to be able to undo Nut A to adjust it, does anybody know what size it is?

Cheers!

Re: Edd's 1969 2 door. UHU62H

Well when I have Nut B and the spring off and the jet pushed in all the way, the piston will rise and fall with an audible clunk, is this what I am looking for? Then I can replace Nut B and the spring and adjust that?

Thanks

Re: Edd's 1969 2 door. UHU62H

If you saw earlier I've been rubuilding the carb, I got an SU rebuild kit from Santa this year and have replaced the spindle, throttle disk, jet, needle and the gaskets, giving it a good clean as I go. In regards to jet centring, I tried following the Haynes, but that confused me and I also found a ...

Re: Edd's 1098 engine rebuild.

Thanks BMC, that's great advice. I have no idea what I'm looking for in terms of wear so I could do with more opinions really, thank you. It's on hold slightly, cylinder head going together first but I'm putting my car back into a rolling resto, just rebuilt the carb (need some help with jet centrin...

Brilliant, yeh I thought it would need sealing as to avoid problems. Got a lovely orbital sander for christmas so flatting for the respray should be fine!

Thank you

Re: Edd's 1969 2 door. UHU62H

First question though,

How shall I protect primer/filler from the elements? Blast it over with a can of spray paint? I don't mind a patchwork morris, there's a respray planned soon.

Cheers

Re: Edd's 1969 2 door. UHU62H

You, have all once again. Come to my rescue. I will, I'm excited to get it back together and get things moving again. I've just made friends with a good mechanic as well, so the MOT shouldn't be too painful.... The new updates will be the reassembly and hopefully the first outing to a pub for sunday...

Re: Edd's 1969 2 door. UHU62H

Thank you Neil, You know what, that feels like a great idea, get it back together for driving after winter and then turn it into the rolling restoration I so desperately want. It's like a light bulb just came on. Can someone cast their opinion on my boxing panel repair, does it seem safe? Many thank...

Re: Edd's 1969 2 door. UHU62H

Thanks Rod, great tip. Yeh i was trying to bend the gutter panel up and out the way to no avail.

Any pictures of such a repair from anyone would be hugely valued here.

Feeling better about things. Baby steps!

Re: Edd's 1969 2 door. UHU62H

I am looking for some advice. Have any of you ever got to the moment of realisation on a project where you think you may have poured too much money into something that isn't improving.... Having restored my drivers door, I turned my attention to the frame, I've done a patch for the A post bottom and...

Re: Edd's 1098 engine rebuild.

Could anyone give me a good bit of advice and some guidance on completely cleaning the cylinder head myself with a view to rebuilding and not getting any machine work on it now.

Happy new year all

Re: Edd's 1098 engine rebuild.

Brilliant, ok thank you.

Well that will save me some money, it worked out at about £160 to get it machined and rebuild it myself or £202 to buy an exchange head.

I've got a few bits I can buy now!

Re: Edd's 1098 engine rebuild.

Thanks Steve, Yeh I'll get the head all cleaned up and decoked and go from there, a picture is being painted that it isn't really necessary though! Do any of you use lead substitute when refuelling or just don't bother all together? To be honest, I would be glad to save the money and not get them ha...

Re: Edd's 1098 engine rebuild.

Ok thank you very much, why are hardened valve seats and valves even a thing then? If everyone says don't bother, where's the science that says it's necessary, I've heard people say you don't need it for small journeys and infrequent use but surely frequent use plus a round Britain trip counts as a ...

Re: Edd's 1098 engine rebuild.

I had a gent from a local classic car company pop up to have a look at the wear on the engine for me. He showed me the markings on the big end bearings and on the block and pistons that say its standard and has never had a grind or rebore. Having had nothing touched on it, his opinion was that it wa...

Pepsi and petrol.[frame]Image[/frame]

Good for cleaning. Just had my delivery of an SU rebuild kit, new float and float hinge pin and needle. Santa won't let me have it until December 25 though. Spoil sport.
