Re: Valve springs

ESM have valve springs in stock for the Series MM Minor 918cc side-valve engine - their code number: SV103. These are identical albeit new to the S/H Morris 8 springs Philthehill mentions above. https://www.morrisminorspares.com/engine-c14/918cc-side-valve-engine-parts-c17/valve-springs-each-918cc-s...

Re: new to here

The N.E.R.C. is more or less on your doorstep if you need local help and advice. Some of the members probably live in or around the South Shields area - certainly I can think of one or two that did back in the early days of the the club in the 1970's when I was a member. http://www.northeastrestorat...

Re: Alternator to Side valve Engine

I've neither bought one nor fitted one, so absolutely no knowledge / experience of them, but these 'DYNAMATOR' - 45 Amp alternators that look like the original Dynamo and fit using the original Dynamo mountings are available here in the UK - though some would say they're expensive. I presume the Ser...

Re: Water pump fan blades.

I've found another couple of online images which might suggest that the blades in photo 2 of the MM water pump in my previous post are in fact the correct blades for the later water pump engine and the blades shown in photos 1 and 3 are for the earlier non-water pump engines. Note that the leading e...

Re: Water pump fan blades.

Rob, I've a 918cc Morris 8 Series I Tourer rather than a Series MM Minor though I do have a Military Tank engine which as I'm sure you'll know was built around the late MM Minor water pump / external oil filter fitted side-valve engine block. None of these images are mine, I've merely found them on ...

Re: Water pump fan blades.

A single fan blade was fitted to the late 1934 to 1948 Pre-Series / Series I / II and Series E Morris 8 side-valve engines. The BMC Morris Series MM Minor Service Parts List Fourth Edition seems to suggest that the two blades I mentioned in my earlier post - X31437 / X31438 were fitted to the early ...

Re: Water pump fan blades.

The parts list shows that the two blades are indeed different: Blade Fan - part number X31437 - illustration A80 - 1 required Blade - Offset - Fan - part number X31438 - illustration A81 - 1 required Also check that your blades are fitted the correct way round i.e. sucking air through the radiator n...

Re: Oil leak from Side-valve oil filter mounting

I'm reasonably certain the following screw-on oil filters will be shorter than the one you've received with the adaptor unit. Google these reference numbers and you should be able to find out the filter length.

Re: Oil leak from Side-valve oil filter mounting

It's highly likely the drain plug of an MG T Type and MG Series Y will be from the same Morris Motors / Nuffield Organisation parts bin. Certainly worth checking for size if you happen to live near to NTG Motor Services Ltd in Ipswich or a Moss Europe branch in the UK - London, Bradford, Bristol and...

Re: Oil leak from Side-valve oil filter mounting

The sump bolt on the left with the deep head is a genuine original and the sizes would have originally been: The two front and two back sump bolts M8 fine (1.00mm pitch) x 22mm (7/8") The eight other sump bolts M8 fine (1.00mm pitch) x 19mm (3/4") The heads were originally 3/16" Whit ...

Follow VERY carefully the instructions regarding the fitting of the rear main bearing cap Cork Strip - section A.2 Removal and Replacement of Sump pages A.7 and A.8 of the British Leyland / BMC Workshop Manual (14th Edition).

Taupe,

I'd be interested to learn where you sourced the 1/4" BSF threaded brass inserts - they look useful fixings for timber framing.

Re: Apologies but yet another tyre question

Always worth asking the question I think. So does anyone know where I could find a set of Nankangs as I cannot justify the high price of the Pirelli or Michelin just yet. Longstone Tyres - Vintage & Classic of Bawtry, Doncaster stock Nankang 155/80/14 - they usually offer free fitting if buying...

Re: Series MM oil pump

Paul, I suggest you try a company that's not that far from you called 'From The Frame Up' in Phoenix, Arizona - they're suppliers of new spare parts for MG T Type sports cars. MG were part of the Morris Motors empire and the early T Type engines were based on Morris 10 engines. Certainly the Morris ...

Suggest you contact Burrows Lea Forge Ltd - they're based at Burrows Lea Farm, Hook Lane, Shere - they may know what happened to Mr Alan Hill and his Over The Hill Motor Co. 192 also lists a number of Alan Hill with addresses in Surrey - https://www.192.com/atoz/people/hill/alan/4/ https://a-blacksm...
