Re: Low compression versus hight compression engine ?
I guess If you were going to fit a diesel 948 to anything a A40 farina or a35 would be a better and lighter starting point

Hood frame rivets
Hi All, My convertible is soon to be treated to the fitting of a new hood and, whilst doing this I thought it would be sensible tart up the hood frame, previously someone has replaced the rivets with self tapping screws and small nuts and bolts, obviously while I'm there I fancy changing these for t...

Re: front seats
By the looks of it you've got some of the early morris bucket style seats, they're far more comfy than the later type, sadly they don't come up for sale on Ebay all that often. as they are leather ( I think ? ) you could probably give them some hide food which would do them a world of good.

Re: 1950 Saloon project
The bores seem in pretty good condition, with no scoring etc. the engine is still on its standard pistons suggesting it hasn't been rebuilt, the engine turns over fine by hand. The previous owner had it running and apparently it was a bit smokey so they took it apart. one of the head studs is broken...

Re: 1950 Saloon project
Ahh I see the part you mean , I'll have a look and see if mine has them ( I don't think it does) The engine number is 52540 I'll have to check what USHM it is.
Any idea how long these engines last ? mines done 43000 miles, shall I consider fitting new rings ?
Cheers,
Will

Hmmmm, It's all food for thought...
I suppose in light of the advice hear I'll probably go radials, but I'd like to drive a car on crossplys first

Re: 1950 Saloon project
Thanks moggylowight,
Dad had a lowlight about 25 years ago, I'm hoping theres still some of those tools lurking in the shed...
Any idea when they introduced the Block spring collar ? my car doesn't have a oil filter so may not have them either
Cheers,
Will

Re: Series MM wheel cylinders
Took the front hub apart today, wheel cylinders seized solid, and the brake pedal stuck down, suggesting that the M/C has seized me thinks its time for a total brake overhaul, so it'll be later cylinders all round with a new M/C and probably new brake pipes

Re: Crossplys or Radials
JOWETTJAVELIN, I'm tempted to go for crossplys for the different driving experience too, though I'd like to hear some other people views on this too

Re: Crossplys or Radials
I've got a friend who can get my both radials and crossplys at cost price, interstingly theres only about a pound or two in it, so cost for me isn't an issue.

Re: Series MM wheel cylinders
Thanks Chaps,
I'll probably do whatever is most cost effective, if the cylinders I've got are shot I'll replace with the later ones, but if they seem okay I'll just reseal them .
Cheers,
Will

Hi Mike,
Do have any more information on the conversion ? does it require any modifications other than some unbolting and spannerwork ?
Cheers,
Will

Crossplys or Radials
Hi all, the lowlight is in a need of a new set of boots all round and is currently fitted with some old and crusty crossplys, whats the general school of thought regarding which ones to go for ? I have radials on the daily but would crossplys be okay on the lowlight ? or is it best to stick to radia...

Re: 1950 Saloon project
Not to worry moggylowlight, I already have the workshop manual ready for some bed side reading  . I won't be rushing her back onto the road, I'll be putting the engine back together as well as fully overhauling the brakes. She won't be restored, more like refurbished. The paint will be touched ...

Re: Series MM wheel cylinders
Thanks chaps, that gives me plenty of food for thought, I'll have a look at the cylinders and report back, if there not too bad I may just reseal, but the master cylinder and rubber hoses will be replaced .
I'll keep you posted.
Cheers,
Will

Re: Series MM wheel cylinders
Agreed! Where did you get your cylinders from?
I Don't know BMC, it would be a sensible solution but I don't know what mods are required...
I'll be looking this week to see what is/ isn't serviceable, she's been off the road 17 years so I'm expecting the worst.
Cheers,
Will
