Re: Edd's 1969 2 door. UHU62H

No, I would say that that one would give very little improvement.

Re: Edd's 1969 2 door. UHU62H

You need the second one in Panky's post. The others will not work together with the pancake filter. Edit. Interesting, I just had a look on eBay to see if there were any on there. I could only find different types with a higher profile. These lose much of their advantage of the smooth flow into the ...

Re: Edd's 1969 2 door. UHU62H

Just a small point, but if the pancake filter is used without a stub stack you will actually lose efficiency (and hence torque and power) compared to the standard system! Not very much admittedly, but if you compare the pancake with and without insert then we are talking 3-4%, which is massive in tu...

Re: Paint choices

They were not painted silver, in fact they were not painted at all, hence the self coloured finish of the "plating". Does anyone know what was used? Zinc? nickel? or other chemical treatment?

Yes, a good few coats of aerosol are needed together with a wax polish. Otherwise humidity will slowly work its way through to the steel, and wait, ready for a grand entrance shortly after the full expensive respray in the future!

Re: Edd's 1969 2 door. UHU62H

There are a couple of pictures here, although it is sometime tricky to always see exactly where the camera is pointing as the car is on a spit and mainly upside down. http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=48882&start=160 Looking at your pictures I can well understand your dilemma. On t...

Re: Edd's 1098 engine rebuild.

Forget all the additives, save your money. They do not increase octane even if they claim to. There was a study on this published somewhere in one of the magazines, specifically measuring the effects of so called octane boosters. Apart from a couple of very specialist additives none had any signific...

Re: Edd's 1098 engine rebuild.

Take your time, do it right and do it once! However, that said, an unleaded head can be fitted at any time in the future and is pretty quick and simple. So I would suggest getting the short engine done first and getting it back in the car. The less time the car is in bits off the road the better! Yo...

Re: Advice before buying a van

I apologise in advance as I am going to be very blunt! Without any doubt the best financial strategy is to buy the very best you can afford. In your case, probably the very best you can find. If you are paying for the restoration, you should be budgeting between £10K and £25k (just for the restorati...

Re: Trevelers sills

Thanks for the feedback, so the re-enforcement is considered unnecessary or redundant once the rear body is attached. It depends what the car is used for. Originally these cars were often bought as substitute vans, heavily loaded and driven hard for tens of thousands of miles per year, over poor qu...

Re: Trevelers sills

Bearing in mind how many travellers are running round without issues, but with severely corroded sills, I am sure it would never be noticed if it was not fitted. The car I restored was being driven around for years with little more than pop riveted aluminium and filler where the sills once were. I w...

Re: Edd's 1098 engine rebuild.

You need to take the block and crank to your chosen machine shop and let them check for you before doing the necessary work. They will also tell you exactly what parts need to be replaced and the sizes. They should even be able to order for you at trade prices. You are against the clock now as surfa...
