When oxy-fuel gas welding aluminum, the problem is that the alloy oxide melts at a far higher temperature than the aluminum. You are far better off TIG welding it. You do need an a/c TIG set, the alternating HF arc ionizes the oxide and removes it.

The thread is already there, it has a factory fitted, slot headed blanking stud in it. I once removed one in the late 70's from a mini head but had to weld a bolt to it first. It then just unscrewed. I fitted a 940 head in the summer which has a bypass plug fitted into the head, so I plugged the pump bypass and drilled a couple of holes into the thermostat. What about using the old style tap to give the 90 deg bend connected with a short piece of hose to one of biomed32uk in line tap operated with the pull cord? Just leave the old tap open.
